A Message from the Luzerne Conservation District

The Luzerne Conservation District (LCD) will conduct mosquito control operations in Pittston City and surrounding communities beginning this evening, Tuesday, August 11.

Truck-mounted spraying will take place in residential and recreational areas to control adult mosquitoes after multiple mosquito samples collected in or near the area tested positive for West Nile Virus.

Operations will begin during the evening hours. Wednesday, August 12 and Thursday, August 13 will serve as rain dates or may be used to continue spraying if necessary.

The products being used are applied in very small amounts and are designed to quickly control adult mosquitoes. According to LCD, these applications do not pose a significant risk to people or pets when used as directed. However, residents are encouraged to minimize exposure. If you see a spray truck approaching, please head indoors for a few minutes while the spray dissipates.

Weather conditions or other unforeseen circumstances may delay or cancel spraying.

For questions or concerns, please contact Lauren Holder with the Luzerne Conservation District at 570-674-7991 ext. 9.

Please feel free to share this information with neighbors and fellow residents.

Yesterday, the City of Pittston, in partnership with the Greater Pittston Chamber of Commerce and Jenkins Township Little League, was honored to welcome the players, coaches, and families competing in the Pennsylvania State Little League Tournament.

As these talented teams begin their journey toward a chance to play in the Little League World Series in Williamsport, we were proud to help kick off an unforgettable week of competition and celebrate our host region here in Northeastern Pennsylvania.

Teams from Hollidaysburg, East Side, Milton, Blue Mountain, French Creek, Newtown-Edgmont, West Point, and the Back Mountain gathered to enjoy great food from LaFratte's Catering, sweet treats from JFL What's the Scoop?, and the opportunity to connect before tournament play begins.

Best of luck to every team over the coming days. We wish each player an incredible tournament experience and safe travels as they chase their dream of earning a trip to Williamsport. ⚾️

What a day! ☀️🍔

Yesterday’s annual Pittston City Community Cookout brought neighbors together for an afternoon full of fun, food, and community spirit. Families enjoyed free hamburgers and hot dogs, live music, a bounce house, Touch-a-Truck with the Pittston City Police and Fire Departments, free ice cream and shaved ice from JFL What's the Scoop? basketball, temporary tattoos, games, and so much more.

Seeing residents connect with one another, enjoy Sullivan Park, and spend time with City administration is what this event is all about.
