🇺🇸 MUNICIPAL BUILDING OPERATIONS/GARBAGE AND RECYCLING COLLECTION--COLUMBUS DAY HOLIDAY 🇺🇸

Due to the observance of the Columbus Day holiday, the Pittston Township Municipal Building will be closed on Monday, October 12th, 2026. The municipal building will reopen with normal operating hours on Tuesday, October 13th, 2026.

Garbage and recycling collection will be collected by JP Mascaro on Friday, October 16th, 2026, and will be unaffected by the holiday. If any resident has any questions or concerns about the garbage and recycling collection, please contact JP Mascaro at 1-800-243-7575.

We hope all residents have a happy and safe holiday weekend!

A Pennsylvania driver’s license belonging to Jennifer Rios was turned in to the Pittston Township Municipal Building. If this is yours, please stop by to pick it up at the Pittston Township Municipal Building during normal business hours.

Please bring a second form of identification if you have one.

🏠 INFORMATION ON NEW STATE LAW REGARDING NON-OWNER-OCCUPIED PROPERTIES OR RENTAL PROPERTIES 🏠

Gov. Josh Shapiro has signed into law Act 29 of 2026 (HB 858), which is in effect as of September 18, 2026. Act 29 directs the county chief assessor to maintain a list of all non-owner-occupied property in the county with current contact information for the property owners. Within 30 days of purchase of property in the county, the new property owner would be required to submit contact information to the county chief assessor, which for businesses must include contact information for an individual or employee who has the authority and ability to repair or correct a municipal code violation, which the property owner must keep updated. Luzerne County may levy fines of up to $500 against companies or individuals that intentionally or knowingly provide false or incorrect contact information.

In addition, if a property is cited for violation of a municipal ordinance or code, the municipality will be required to collect contact information for the property owner and provide this information to the county chief assessor.

🚨 CODE ENFORCEMENT OFFICE CLOSED — SEPTEMBER 23RD-SEPTEMBER 25TH 🚨

The Pittston Township Code Enforcement office will be CLOSED from Wednesday, September 23rd until Friday, September 25th due to the code enforcement officer attending training during that time period.

If any resident has any urgent questions or concerns during that time, please contact the municipal office at 570-654-0161.
