Catalytic Converter Arrests

Around 3:45 AM this morning officers responded to the area of the 200 block of Sunrise for a burglary that just occurred. Officers determined a catalytic converter was stolen and the suspects were seen fleeing in a white Tesla. One of our officers located a white Tesla near Orangethorpe and the 57 freeway. Officers attempted to conduct an enforcement stop on the vehicle, but the driver failed to yield.

A pursuit ensued and the vehicle ultimately collided into the wall at the 91 freeway and Brookhurst. After a short foot pursuit two subjects were apprehended with the help of Fullerton PD, Anaheim PD, and CHP.

We located 6 catalytic converters in the Tesla that were recently stolen.

Orange County has seen a recent increase in catalytic converter thefts over the past month.
These suspects were transported to Orange County Jail for several charges and probation violations.

Great teamwork by everyone involved and a big thank you to the resident who called in the activity.

On Saturday, August 1, 2026, we will be conducting a DUI (Driving Under the Influence) checkpoint at an undisclosed location within the city limits. The checkpoint will operate from 8:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m.

Checkpoint locations are selected based on data identifying areas with a high incidence of impaired driving-related crashes. The primary goal of DUI checkpoints is to enhance public safety by removing impaired drivers from the roadway.

We remind the public that impairment is not limited to alcohol. Certain prescription and over-the-counter medications can also impair driving. Additionally, while medicinal and recreational ma*****na use is legal in California, driving under the influence of ma*****na remains illegal.

Drivers arrested for a first-time DUI offense can face an average of $13,500 in fines and penalties, along with a suspended license.

This enforcement effort is funded by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS), through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
