Our Commissioner LeeAnne Mila is retiring this week. She was honored yesterday at the California Assembly for her commitment to agriculture and public service. LeeAnne, you will be missed!

Our very own Ag commissioner, LeeAnne Mila, was honored this morning by Assemblymembers Assemblymember Heather Hadwick and Assemblyman Joe Patterson for her distinguished service to the County for more than 23 years by presenting her with a Resolution on the Assembly floor. The Resolution touches on LeeAnne’s leadership and oversight of particularly challenging issues such as roadside fruit vendors, the glassy-winged sharpshooter, and the impact of the Caldor Fire on our Ag and livestock communities, commends her for her impressive career and civic achievements, and extends their best wishes for a fulfilling retirement.

Ag Pass Training Classes:
The agricultural and livestock access pass program allows eligible commercial farmers and ranchers access (conditions permitting) to their crops and livestock to perform essential farming and ranching activities during emergencies and wildfire evacuations.

On April 2nd, 2026, 9am-1pm (rescheduled date), we will be holding an initial training for passholders from both El Dorado and Amador County in person at our office. The annual renewal training will be held virtually on March 26th at 6pm.

To qualify for the program, you must have one of the following:

5 acres or more of planted crops
50 head (including in utero) of livestock, not including horses
50 beehives
100 poultry or rabbits

To receive a pass, you must attend the four-hour initial training class and sign a notarized waiver of liability. To renew the pass, you must attend a one-hour renewal training every year. Passes are non-transferable, and every individual who wishes to have access must attend the training class. Passholders will be allowed entry into evacuation zones as conditions allow and may be denied access by incident command due to worsening conditions in the disaster area.

Please list the physical address(es) and/or APNs for each property where crops/livestock may be located during the next 12 months. Include approximate season of use and a description/approximate number of crop acres and/or livestock on site.

The Community Alliance for Family Farmers and the UC Cooperative Extension Central Sierra are hosting an informational session for farmers on Thursday, March 26, 2026 from 9-11am. They will be sharing information on the resources they provide as well as an upcoming project for stone fruit growers that offers monetary incentives for participating in trials of sustainable pest management practices.
