We love seeing folks work on defensible space… but sometimes it’s giving “A+ effort, C+ execution” 😅🔥

A few common oops moments to avoid:
• Mowing at noon on a hot, dry day (Aim for early morning instead)
• Trimming vegetation… and leaving the pile right there 👀(It’s not “gone” if it’s still sitting next to your house)
• Stacking firewood right against the house (The winter months are gone and your siding is not a storage unit)
• Thinking “that looks good enough” (Wildfire does not grade on effort, make sure you’re completing work for each defensible space zone)
Defensible space is one of the best things you can do for your home, but doing it the right way makes all the difference.

Meet your neighbors in Mosquito & BBQ! Get connected before an emergency 🆘

UPDATED (6/3) Adding Tuesday, 6/9, because of the Holland Fire.

A few of us are gathering at 𝐃𝐲𝐞𝐫 𝐋𝐚𝐤𝐞 𝐨𝐧 𝐓𝐮𝐞𝐬𝐝𝐚𝐲, 𝐉𝐮𝐧𝐞 9th and 𝟏𝟔𝐭𝐡, 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐭 𝟒:𝟎𝟎 (to whenever). Wani is selling tacos until dusk, and we're doing something this community needs: 𝐦𝐞𝐞𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐞𝐚𝐜𝐡 𝐨𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫.

Not at a town hall. Not in a Facebook comment thread during an emergency. Now, while there's time to actually connect.

Every neighborhood in Mosquito has people with trailers, people with extra seats, people with skills ( trades, creative, communication, interpersonal) — and people who will need help when the time comes. 𝐁𝐮𝐭 𝐢𝐟 𝐰𝐞 𝐝𝐨𝐧'𝐭 𝐤𝐧𝐨𝐰 𝐞𝐚𝐜𝐡 𝐨𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐛𝐞𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐟𝐢𝐫𝐞, 𝐧𝐨𝐧𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐬.

Aerial views of the Caldor Fire burn scar highlight critical progress on the Grizzly Flats Water Security Project. 🚁

Teams are actively removing hazardous dead trees and debris from the watershed.

This essential work directly protects the local public water source and ensures clean, reliable water for the Grizzly Flats community. 💧🌲

This work is possible because of a generous grant provide by Bureau of Reclamation.

🗺️ The SAGE Map Contest did not disappoint!🙌

Take a close look at the incredible details on these maps. Beyond looking stunning, each entry had to meet strict competitive criteria to qualify. Every cartographer had to successfully include these four key pillars:

2️⃣ A legend 🔑
3️⃣ A compass rose 🌹
4️⃣ A scale ⚖️

🤝 Our project partners from the Placer County RCD conducted a site visit with us for the Mosquito EFRT Project. Funded by CAL FIRE and US Forest Service (USFS), this vital initiative focuses on removing hazardous trees and debris left by the Mosquito Fire.
🌱 The project also includes crucial replanting efforts to restore the landscape and promote forest resilience. 🌲🔥🚜
