Vitamin D plays an important role in helping babies and young children build strong, healthy bones.

Children need vitamin D beginning shortly after birth, but how they get enough can depend on their age and how they're fed.

A few things for parents to know:
🍼 Breastfed and partially breastfed babies typically need a daily vitamin D supplement.
🥛 Infant formula is fortified with vitamin D.
🍳 Once children begin eating solid foods, eggs, some fish, and vitamin D-fortified foods can help provide this important nutrient.

Have questions about whether your baby or toddler is getting enough? Talk with your child's healthcare provider at their next checkup.

Pregnancy comes with plenty of questions, including what’s safe to eat. 🍎

Some foods are best avoided or handled with extra care during pregnancy because they may carry a higher risk of foodborne illness or may not be recommended during pregnancy.

A few things to keep in mind:
🥩 Avoid raw or undercooked meat, seafood, and eggs
🐟 Choose fish that are lower in mercury
🥛 Avoid unpasteurized milk and cheeses made with unpasteurized milk
🥪 Heat deli meats and hot dogs until steaming
☕ Keep an eye on caffeine intake
🥬 Wash fruits and vegetables thoroughly

Have questions about a specific food? Talk with your healthcare provider about what’s right for you and your pregnancy.

Developmental screenings aren't tests your child passes or fails. They're a simple way to check in on how your child is growing and learning. 🌱

Screenings can help parents better understand their child's development in areas like communication, movement, problem-solving, and social skills. They can highlight the things your child is already doing well and identify areas where a little extra support may be helpful.

Parents know their children best, which is why your observations are an important part of the screening process.

Little ones love to play outside, but hot days call for a few extra precautions. ☀️

Toddlers and preschoolers may be having too much fun to remember when it's time for water, shade, or a break. Parents and caregivers can help by:

💧 Offering water regularly
🌳 Taking frequent breaks in the shade
🕙 Limiting outdoor play during the hottest parts of the day
👕 Choosing lightweight, breathable clothing
👀 Watching for signs that your child may be getting too hot

Headache, dizziness, nausea, unusual tiredness, confusion, or excessive sweating can be signs of heat-related illness.

What happens in childhood can have an impact long after we grow up. 💙

Experiencing ongoing stress or trauma as a child can affect our physical and emotional health and sometimes even the way we respond to stress as parents.

But these patterns don't have to continue from one generation to the next. Recognizing toxic stress, finding support, and building safe, nurturing relationships can help parents break the cycle and create a healthier future for their children.

Understanding what's happening is an important first step.
