28 incredible members of the Indiana State Police—both sworn and professional staff—completed training with the International Critical Incident Stress Foundation, Inc..

What stood out most wasn’t just the training itself—but the people.

Each of these individuals stepped forward to serve in a different way. To listen. To support. To show up for others during some of the most difficult moments our personnel may face.

That takes trust. It takes humility. And it takes a genuine commitment to something bigger than yourself.

These 28 now represent the newest members of our Wellness Section, and we couldn’t be more proud of the example they are setting across our department.

This is how we continue to move forward—by building a culture where taking care of our people is not just something we say, but something we do.

Grateful for this team and the impact they will have across the Indiana State Police.

ISP Hero WOD - Trooper Jason E Beal

Today we push ourselves, not for a number on the board, not for a personal record, but for something much, much deeper…HONOR!  Take on this ISP Hero WOD to honor those who paid the ultimate sacrifice… those who held the line so we could live freely, train freely, and continue becoming the very best versions of ourselves.

Trooper Jason E Beal
Hometown: Shelbyville, Indiana
District: Bremen
Appointed: December 13, 1998
Deceased: January 16, 2000

While patrolling southeastern Kosciusko County, Trooper Beal stopped to assist a wrecker operator, who was pulling a car out of a ditch. As the two men worked along side State Road 14, the driver of a passing vehicle lost control of her car on the icy roadway striking the wrecker and the state trooper. Trooper Beal died from his injuries three days later.

World Mental Health Day.

Of course, nothing in science is perfect, but this is a meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials—basically the best scientific analysis that can be performed.

So, the take-homes listed are pretty crazy and very significant.

One thing to note for the 2nd bullet on slide two: They’re not saying breathwork can replace exercise—just that the impact on anxiety and depression is similar statistically.

P.S. Because some of those findings are quite remarkable, here are the quotes directly from the paper itself:

"For instance, Heber et al.’s meta-analysis on computer- and online-based stress interventions, including CBT and third-wave CBT (e.g., inclusion of meditation, mindfulness, or acceptance of emotions) compared to controls in adults, found moderate effects on stress, anxiety, and depression. Each of these effects overlap more than 25% with the width of either interval in our results for breathwork, denoting no indication of a clinically relevant difference between the interventions."
