There's a petition against the Plainfield trash plant. Signing it is fine. But petitions are easy for the state to set aside.

What the Connecticut Siting Council cannot ignore: individual emails from named Plainfield residents.

Here's what you'd be opposing β€” SMART Technology Systems' plan to process 1,800 tons of garbage a day on 81 acres in a residential neighborhood, with 100+ trucks and emissions near homes and water.

Email the Siting Council today and say you oppose the SMART trash plant: https://portal.ct.gov/csc

Then ask three neighbors to send their own. Three emails beat thirty signatures.

A milestone worth celebrating.

Today, the Plainfield Democratic Town Committee reached more than 1,000 followers on Facebook. While that number is exciting, what matters most to us is the community behind it.

Thank you to everyone who follows our page, attends meetings, volunteers at events, helps register voters, supports local candidates, shares our posts, asks thoughtful questions, and stays engaged in the future of Plainfield and our state. Every conversation, every comment, every hour volunteered, and every act of civic participation helps strengthen our community.

Over the years, our committee has grown because of people who believe that local involvement matters. Whether you have been with us for years or just recently joined our page, your support, ideas, feedback, and participation help shape the work we do.

We are especially grateful to the many volunteers, committee members, candidates, elected officials, supporters, and community partners who have dedicated their time and energy to making a difference. None of this happens without you.

As we continue moving forward, we remain committed to keeping our community informed, encouraging civic engagement, supporting Democratic candidates and values, and providing a welcoming place for residents to get involved.

From all of us at the Plainfield Democratic Town Committee, thank you for helping us reach this milestone. We look forward to continuing this journey together and growing an even stronger community in the years ahead.

Thank you for being part of the PDTC family. Here's to the next 1,000 followers and many more opportunities to serve our community. πŸ’™

Picture Route 12 and Route 14 with more than 100 garbage trucks a day on them β€” every weekday, 6 a.m. to 5 p.m.

That's part of what SMART Technology Systems' proposed waste-to-energy plant brings to Plainfield. It would process 1,800 tons of trash a day on 81 acres in a residential zone. The trucks tear up roads we pay to maintain. The plant puts emissions over the neighborhoods around it.

Plainfield's Republican and Democratic town committees both signed a letter against it. This is not politics.

Tell the state. Email the Connecticut Siting Council and your legislator today and oppose the SMART trash plant: https://portal.ct.gov/csc

A waste plant this big can be stopped β€” a Connecticut town already did it.

First, what we're up against: SMART Technology Systems wants to process 1,800 tons of garbage a day on 81 acres in a residential part of Plainfield. Trucks, emissions, the works.

Killingly, right up the road, faced a 650-megawatt power plant. Residents organized, wrote the state, packed every hearing, and never let up. The plant was never built.

They started by contacting the state β€” over and over. Do the same. Email the Connecticut Siting Council today and oppose the SMART trash plant: https://portal.ct.gov/csc

Plainfield already told the state what it thinks of the trash plant. We voted 1,148 to 125 against it β€” almost 10 to 1.

What we voted against: SMART Technology Systems' plan to process 1,800 tons of garbage a day on 81 acres in a residential part of town, with more than 100 trucks a day and emissions over our neighborhoods.

But here's the catch β€” that vote was non-binding. The Connecticut Siting Council, a state board, makes the final call. They can still approve it.

So the people who decide need to hear from you. Email your state legislator today and tell them to oppose the SMART trash plant. Find yours in 30 seconds: https://www.cga.ct.gov/

A company called SMART Technology Systems wants to build a waste-to-energy plant in Plainfield β€” 81 acres off Route 12 and Route 14, in a residential neighborhood.

Here's what that means: 1,800 tons of garbage hauled in and burned down for gas here every single day. More than 100 garbage trucks through our streets, 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. Emissions in the air your family breathes. Risk to the water under our homes.

Plainfield already voted against it, 10 to 1. But the state, not the town, makes the final call.

Don't wait on someone else to stop this. Email the Connecticut Siting Council today and tell them you oppose the SMART trash plant: https://portal.ct.gov/csc

Eastern Connecticut deserves leaders who understand working families because they have lived it themselves.

Tonight, the Plainfield Democratic Town Committee proudly voted to endorse Joe de la Cruz for Connecticut State Senate in the 18th District. Joe has spent years fighting for working people, supporting recovery and prevention programs, standing up for southeastern Connecticut jobs, and remaining connected to the communities he serves.

From his work advocating for families affected by addiction to his support for labor, manufacturing, infrastructure, and local economic growth, Joe continues to bring a practical and people focused approach to public service. His experience, accessibility, and commitment to Eastern Connecticut make him the right choice for the future of the district.

We are proud to stand with Joe de la Cruz and look forward to helping move Connecticut forward together.

Please take a moment to follow Joe’s campaign and learn more about his vision for the 18th District.
