💚 As Mental Health Matters Month comes to a close, students from F. W. Cook Elementary School and the Superintendent's Student Advisory Council joined the City of Plainfield for a fun and meaningful Mental Health Matters Flag Raising Ceremony to celebrate the importance of wellness, kindness, and supporting one another.

Throughout the month of May, our schools and community have worked together to promote positive mental health awareness and remind everyone that it is okay to ask for help and check in on one another. The celebration served as a powerful reminder that when we come together as a community, we help create safe, supportive, and caring spaces for all students and families.

Thank you to the City of Plainfield, staff, students, and community members who helped make this event so special as we close out Mental Health Matters Month strong! 💚

Burlington Celebrates Grand Opening in Watchung with $5,000 Donation to F.W. Cook Elementary School

WATCHUNG, NJ — May 29, 2026- Community members, local officials, educators, and Burlington representatives gathered to celebrate the grand opening of Burlington’s newest location in Watchung with a special presentation benefiting students at Frederick W. Cook Elementary School in the Plainfield Public School District.

As part of Burlington’s longstanding partnership with AdoptAClassroom.org, the company presented F.W. Cook Elementary School with a $5,000 donation to support classroom supplies and educational resources for students and teachers.

The celebration welcomed several distinguished guests, including Plainfield Board of Education President Hanae M. Wyatt, Board Commissioner DeShawne Allen-Jordan, Business Administrator & Board Secretary Cameron E. Cox, City Councilman Richard Wyatt, PATT (Parents and Teachers Together) representatives, district administrators, educators, parents, and community members. Students Kaleelah DeCosey and Haven Monroe also delivered a special musical performance during the event.
“We are very proud to be part of this community and grateful for the opportunity to support our local schools,” said the Burlington Store Manager. “Burlington is excited to open a new store, bring new jobs to the neighborhood, and continue investing in education through our partnership with AdoptAClassroom.org.”

Principal Caryn D. Cooper, Ed. D. of Frederick W. Cook Elementary School expressed appreciation for the donation and Burlington’s community partnership.

“We are truly grateful that Burlington chose our school for this generous contribution,” said Dr. Cooper. “The classroom supplies and resources provided through this donation will go a long way in supporting both our students and teachers. We appreciate Burlington’s commitment to education and to our community.”

Plainfield Board of Education President Hanae M. Wyatt also thanked Burlington for supporting district students and staff.

“On behalf of the Plainfield Board of Education, we sincerely thank Burlington for this generous donation,” said President Wyatt. “Support like this directly impacts our classrooms and helps ensure our students and teachers have the resources they need to succeed. As both a board member and a parent of a Cook student, I know this contribution will be greatly appreciated by the entire F.W. Cook school community.”

Plainfield Public School came together for an early celebration honoring the upcoming 250th anniversary of the United States of America. Led by Dr. Tristian M. Cox, the district hosted a day filled with student performances, historical presentations, and collaborative projects that brought American history to life across our schools.

While the nation officially marks this historic milestone on July 4, 2026, our district chose to celebrate during the school year so students, staff, and families could fully take part in the experience. The event reflected more than history, it highlighted unity, civic pride, and the incredible work happening throughout our schools every day.

From classrooms to performances, our scholars proudly showcased their understanding of the nation’s history while creating memories that will last for years to come.
