02/26/2025

Measles is highly contagious respiratory illness and can cause serious health complications, especially in children younger than 5 years of age, pregnant women, and in people who are immunocompromised. The measles virus can survive in the air for up to two hours.

The best way to prevent getting sick is to be immunized with two doses of a vaccine against measles. Two doses of the MMR vaccine are highly effective at preventing measles. The recommended schedule is one dose of MMR at 12-15 months of age and a second dose at 4-6 years of age.

If you have any questions regarding immunization status, you may contact your health care provider or your local health department at 806-293-1359.
