Plainview American Legion Auxiliary Unit #179

We support The American Legion while becoming the premier service organization and foundation providing support for our veterans, our military personnel.

In the spirit of Service, Not Self, the mission of the American Legion Auxiliary is to support The American Legion and to honor the sacrifice of those who serve by enhancing the lives of our veterans, military, and their families, both at home and abroad. For God and Country, we advocate for veterans, educate our citizens, mentor youth, and promote patriotism, good citizenship, peace and security.

The Plainview Auxiliary Unit #179 hosted bingo today at Monarch Nursery home. Prizes were 2 quarters, snack or a Beannie baby! The residents sure did have a wonderful time! Angel food cake and cupcakes were served for social time.

December 6th ,2025 the Plainview Auxiliary Unit #179 hosted kids craft day at the Plainview American Legion Post 179. The event was to decorate a cookie, make a card for a Veteran, make 2 crafts and play a game . Thank you Plainview legion for providing food with a free will donation, and having Santa and his helper Lexi !! Here are some pictures from the event! Thank you to everyone who donated frosting, sprinkles and to the 9 PEM Honor students who volunteered their time.

Be sure to stop by the Plainview Community center this weekend and bid on the baskets the Plainview Auxiliary Unit #179 donated. We decided as a Unit do something different this year! Stay awhile and have lunch at the center and hopefully you will find something to bid on from all the donations!

Tuesday November 18th, 25 the Plainview Auxiliary Unit #179 joined with Elgin Auxiliary Unit #57 and Millville Auxiliary Unit #579 for National American Education Week (Nov.17-21). The Auxiliary delivered delicious Apples and candy to our educators at Immanuel Lutheran School, PEM schools (K-3, 4-6, 7-8, 9-12) and Bluff Country School Bus service, and included a Thank you!
We are very Grateful for our community's commitment to put our students' safety first, educate and help them reach their goals!

This past Saturday November 15th ,2025 the Auxiliary served coffee, donuts and fruit to our Veterans! Stories were shared and we created memories! We truly appreciated the Veterans who stopped by! Thank you again for your service to our country and community!
Thanks to Lyons BP for the coffee cups and Peoples State bank for the napkins.

Thank you to all our Veterans for your service to our country! Today the Plainview Auxiliary along with the bar manager from the American Legion stopped by for a visit with our Veterans and a card. Inside was money on their account for a haircut or a Bennett's gift certificate . They all enjoy our visit!!!

We had an amazing, wonderful afternoon on Monday July 14th, 2025 at Green Prairie Rehabilitation and Assisted living campus dining room. The Tea Party was to recognize Auxiliary members with 40 plus years of membership! The members each received a certificate of membership from our treasurer Tara Goede. As activity director Emily wrote "It was an honor to celebrate the commitment that these ladies have made to our organization, with Jean Speeding being the longest member at 73 yrs with the Auxiliary!! " The ladies (Marion Meyer 18 yrs of membership, Joyce McNallan and Sheila Schultz) set up a gorgeous party with ALL sorts of treats and Tea for us to enjoy. Emily also added It is always such a joy to have members of our Plainview community come up and spend the day with us. Thank you Green Prairie activity director for helping coordinate this event. It was rescheduled 2 times. I would like to add a special Thank you to Deb Eggenberger for playing panio music for our enjoyment and Emily for providing sheet music to "You're A Grand Ole Flag " and What a Wonderful World and the many voices that participated and sang.

Thank you for your service to all our Veterans! The Auxiliary unit handed out Veterans cards at Green Prairie Nursing home and Assisted living after a beautiful Memorial Day Program in the chapel hosted by the Monarch Activities director Emily. Thank you also to the Plainview American Legion Unit #179 color guard who also attended. The Veterans received either a Bennett Gift certificate or money on their account for a haircut. God bless our community and country! Everyone have a safe Memorial day!
