The Town of Plainville covers an area of 9.8 square miles and is located in Hartford County, midway between New Britain and Bristol, and 14 miles southwest of Hartford. Bristol borders it on the west on the north by Farmington, on the east by New Britain and on the south by Southington. Major industries include electrical products, spring manufacturing, tool making, me

tal stamping, heavy construction and stone quarries. The level of growth in Plainville is holding firm in the area of commercial and light industrial building. Plainville has three elementary schools, one middle school and one high school. The Board of Education is committed to improving school facilities. Linden Street Elementary School, the High School and Toffolon Elementary School have undergone extensive renovations and expansions. Plainville’s Senior Center is one of the finest centers offering programs from computer learning to exercising, serving lunches as well as delivering meals on wheels. We also have a transportation program that is coordinated through the Senior Center. Through our Housing Authority 90 units are managed for senior citizens. Plainville’s Fire Company is a volunteer department made up of 85 members. The Company is responsible for the Annual Hot Air Balloon Festival held each year in August. Thousands come from around the state to enjoy the festivities and fireworks display. Trumbull Park boasts a Little League Field, all Purpose Field and Baseball Field. Norton Park has a Girls’ Softball Diamond and a new soccer field was constructed. Berner Pool which is open mid-June to the end of August for residents and their guests to enjoy. This family aquatic center offers two water slides, a raindrop fountain and a zero depth entry tot pool. Paderewski Park is the home of the Conservation Commission’s annual fishing derby. Tomasso Nature Park offers approximately four acres of wetlands, observation areas, knolls, trails and bridges. It is home to nearly 600 painted turtles and other wildlife. The Town of Plainville has had a town manager/town council form of government since 1959. The Town Council is made up of seven members which serve two-year terms. The Board of Education is made up of nine members for four-year terms that oversee the school system which currently has an enrollment of over 2,600 students.

Please be advised that the traffic signal at the intersection of Broad Street and Whiting Street is currently out of service due to a motor vehicle accident.

The intersection remains open, but it is now functioning as a 4‑way stop.

Drivers should come to a complete stop and proceed with caution.

Notice: Pavement Marking Project on State Routes in Central Connecticut starting Sunday, August 30th

The project consists of pavement marking grooves, centerline rumble strips and epoxy pavement marking applications on center lines, shoulder lines and handwork on State Routes in Enfield, Somers, West Hartford, Bloomfield, Vernon, Union, Bolton, Coventry, Andover, Plainville, Bristol, Meriden, Cromwell, Glastonbury, Wolcott, Cromwell, New Britain, Southington and Rocky Hill.

This project is scheduled to occur Sunday, August 30th to Friday, November 6th, 2026, by Safety Markings Inc. No work will be performed the day before or day after all State recognized holidays.

This project is being performed by Safety Markings Inc. The work will take place along Route 72 in Plainville and Bristol.

LANE CLOSURE/DETOUR INFO:

Traffic control personnel, sign patterns, cones, and truck mounted attenuators will be utilized to guide motorists through the work zone. The regular work schedule for this project is 8:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. (Sunday – Friday) on secondary and 8:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. Expressways

Motorists should be aware that modifications or extensions to this schedule may become necessary due to weather delays or other unforeseen conditions. Motorists are advised to maintain a safe speed when driving in this area.

The Plainville Fire Company Hot Air Balloon Festival is only a few days away. Town Manager Mike Paulhus and Plainville Fire Company Member Adam Seigle share some quick reminders to keep in mind before heading to the event this Friday & Saturday. 🎈

🚫🚙 Do not park on Hollyberry Lane or in the surrounding area. Due to ongoing construction on the Farmington Canal Heritage Trail, the pedestrian path connecting Hollyberry Lane to Norton Park is currently closed and inaccessible.

✅🚙 Instead, visitors can park at Robertson Airport or the former GE/ABB lot, then ride the shuttle to and from the festival, just for $5 per car! Accessible parking and motorcycle parking are available at Norton Park; however, parking is limited.
