Plainville Communications

Plainville Communications Our Communication Center was built within our new Publicsafety building to provide dispatch services for Police and Fire. Plainville,MA is an E911 community.

In April 2019 we joined the Towns of Franklin, Norfolk, and Wrentham, creating the Metacomet Emergency Communications Center. All calls for Police, Fire, or Emergency Medical services should be made by dialing 911. Our Metacomet Dispatchers are responsible for a tremendous number of duties, including answering 911 telephones, answering Police and Fire radios from numerous Officers in a number of T

owns and monitoring numerous other systems. Each Town has it's own business telephone system which can connect you to someone for various services like requests for copies of reports etc.

And so our next winter storm begins with plows and salt at the ready. Currently 6" or more are predicted for our area with temps rising slightly to the mid 30's and a change to rain making for heavy wet snowfall. Snowfall radar shows the storm stretching from Concord, NH to Washington D.C.

The State Dpw and our own DPW are out as the winter storm begins.

3 years ago today we broke ground in Norfolk for our Metacomet Emergency Communications Center. It had been in the planning stages for many years with committees made up of the Town Administrators, Police & Fire Chiefs, & IT Admins of the Towns of Franklin, Norfolk, Plainville, & Wrentham.

In the early 2000's, Wrentham & Plainville Police developed a data sharing initiative as a result of lessons learned from the response to the terrorist attacks on 9/11. Shortly after, Norfolk & Franklin joined. As years went on, increases in call volume and additional Dispatcher requirements by the State put Towns in a position where more personnel would be needed. In order to combat the difficult financial times, the concept of combining the 4 Towns resources was born.

Regional or County dispatching isn't new, it's only new to New England. Fact is, it's been the model for much of the Country for decades. It took a lot to figure out how to adapt that model to our needs. It was much easier for our 4 Towns to be the New England pioneers because our Departments were very similar in technologies. We were already using the same Police software, and radio and telephone systems were virtually the same. Although it took many years to get the plans right, and secure the State funding through E911 grants, going from ground breaking to professional live operations in under 2 years was quite an achievement!

Plainville's operations went live at Metacomet on Tuesday May 7, 2019.

It is looking like a great day for the parade. We are on track to start at 11AM.

I would like to thank all of the firefighters for stepping up and volunteering to drive the trucks in the parade today. Also, a special thank you to Deputy Chief Ball for helping to plan the route out for us.

I would like to thank the following families in town for making all the signs you will see on our trucks today. Thank you to the, McHugh, Connor, Durden, Kurtz, and Kunicki families! All of the great messages will add to the parade.

Thank you to all our brothers and sisters at Metacomet.
