Allegan County Emergency Management is pleased to announce that Team Rubicon, a national nonprofit disaster relief organization, will be deploying volunteer chainsaw crews to assist residents in storm-impacted communities following the tornado that struck portions of Allegan County on April 14, 2026. Communities receiving support include Otsego Township, the City of Otsego, the City of Plainwell, Gun Plain Township, and Cheshire Township. Read more in the press release below!

Good morning everyone, as we continue to clean up after the storms please remember a few things:

-Crews are still working to restore power, give them space to do their job safely.

-Use safe practices when operating generators and other power equipment.

-Check on your neighbors. Many people rely on a strong community like ours.

Gun Plain Township Fire Department is opening its doors and staffing the station for any residents in need.
If you need water, restroom access, or a place to plug in and charge your devices, please stop by, we’re here to help.
You’re welcome to park on the east side of the building. Feel free to bring water jugs or buckets, and we’ll be happy to fill them for you.
Stay safe, and don’t hesitate to come by if you need assistance.

As we have been out in the township, we noticed quite a few generators running in garages. Please make sure you have them running outside for your safety!

Please avoid driving through the storm damaged areas. Let emergency and utility crews work to restore roadways and power as quickly and safely as possible. Some roads are still not passable.
