Learning a new language offers many invaluable cognitive benefits, especially in children. People who speak more than one language have improved memory, problem-solving and critical-thinking skills, enhanced concentration, ability to multitask, and better listening skills. Plus it's a lot of fun!

Registration starts this Saturday--sign your child up for this new language class at Tom Muehlenbeck Recreation Center! View the entire winter/spring catalog at www.planoparks.org. Plano Moms

Plano’s field reservation program operates mid-February through mid-November, meaning these fields are currently closed for use. Providing local sports leagues with quality field play requires constant maintenance, part of which includes leaving the fields inactive.

As the temperatures become cooler in the fall and the nights get longer, the grass becomes dormant until nighttime temperatures rise again in the spring. In short, grass cannot recover from the wear and tear of athletic play as well during the winter months. Walking, jogging, or relaxing by the fields is always welcome.

Plano’s neighborhood parks and elementary schools are ideal for hosting drop-in activities and can be used on a first come, first served basis – no reservation needed! Teams are encouraged to conduct practices at these locations.

#PlanoTownHall: Why don't all parks have restrooms?

Answer: The intent of smaller neighborhood parks is to serve their local neighborhoods. Community parks with larger activity and gatherings are able to support restrooms. With 85 park sites, there are many ways to enjoy nature and stay active in Plano! Pick up a parks and trails map for a list of parks and their amenities, or visit planoparks.org. 🌳🌳

#PlanoTownHall: In regards to trees on city streets, does the city replant new ones when they get blown down during storms?

Answer: Yes! This is part of Plano’s long-range plan to provide a healthy, safe and sustainable urban forest for Plano. Median trees experience the highest stress of any other trees due to reflective heat from concrete and traffic pollution, limited planting space and not to mention being at risk from weather and passing traffic. Declining trees also pose safety risk due to falling limbs that can land in the roadway.

The nation-wide staffing shortage continues to impact Plano Parks and Recreation. Despite implementing several new initiatives and strategies to attract and retain part-time employees, shortages continue, with pools being impacted the most.

As a result, we will be reducing the hours of operation for lap swimming, leisure swim, and aquatics programming at Tom Muehlenbeck Recreation Center as of Nov. 22 until further notice. We apologize for this temporary interruption in our service to you, and understand the inconvenience this may cause our members. However, the safety of our patrons is our highest priority, and our assurance to you that our pools will always be safely guarded will not be compromised.

At this time, hours at the other recreation and aquatic facilities are not impacted. However, please continue to check our pool hours regularly for the most up-to-date information regarding facility hours: https://bit.ly/3cmSpao City of Plano, Texas Government

Great Blue Heron at Carpenter Park. I wonder what she is thinking.
Good morning Plano Parks & Recreation!! Any chance this “puddle” at Bob Woodruff will be fixed soon?? Lol my WHITE Great Pyrenees was asking….
Hi! Can anyone steer me in the direction of how to report a problem at a park!?!? Just in case someone official sees this- there is a wasp nest in one of the play structures at Liberty park! Thank you!!!
Hello friends at Plano Parks and Rec. I live in East Plano close to the Cottonwood Greenbelt. It’s a wonderful place to live and in no small part due to the vibrancy of the greenbelt and the feeling of wild nature being so close. And the trail just added that connects the lower part of the green belt up to the high school and beyond is a wonderful and much appreciated enhancement. I’m wondering if there’s a case to be made though for ceasing mowing in some more swaths near the creek and along the new trail that are lnever used by humans for any kind of recreation and that look so nice and healthy when left to their own natural devices with a variety of wild grasses and so forth. Thank you for your consideration and I’d be more than happy to take a walking tour with someone from Parks or provide more detail in whatever way would be helpful.
Please help us to find the three involved in the stabbing incident! The hispanic man and hispanic woman are shown in this image released via twitter this evening.
Are there any public pickleball courts in Plano?
Plano Parks & Recreation you missed the call on Saturday at Russell Creek Park by delaying the tournament for 5 hours. We were there from 9:00 am until 6:00 pm, the fields were dry. Play should have been allowed to start at 10:00. My family (team/coaches) will NOT be back to any of your fields again. This means your parks may have less tournaments since we have let the event company know we will not play in any tournaments at your parks. Your area hotels will have less families stay, area restaurants less team dinners, area businesses that sell needed supplies will all have lost business opportunities if events pull away from your facilities. This is not a small group, there are usually 150 teams in town for this one tournament. This is not a one time thing, you have done this year after year.
Whoever is jogging/running on the indoor track, please remember to pass on the left! A male high schooler and I collided because of that high schooler passing on the right as I was attempting to get out of the way.

Howdy! Is there an estimate on when the Shawnee disc golf update will be complete?
