Copperhead snake on the move at Oak Point Park
#WildlifeWednesday Summer is on the way and people aren't the only ones enjoying the great outdoors. This is when snakes become more active as they search for food and a mate. 🐍
Snakes usually retreat or escape if given the opportunity, as you can see by the way this copperhead is behaving. The danger comes when they are surprised or cornered. If you come across a snake, stop and allow the snake to retreat. If you must move, back away slowly and carefully.

Happy Texas Arbor Day! Our friends at Rice Middle School and Samsung participated in our annual tree planting this morning, planting 11 native trees at Russell Creek Park 🌳 These trees will provide shade and fresh air for years to come. Thank you to our volunteers who helped lead the students during the process and to everyone else who made this morning possible. @cityofplano @samsung @planoisd #arborday #texasarborday #loveplano #healthytreeshealthylives #fridayfeeling #teamworkmakesthedreamwork

Please use caution when visiting a Plano park over the next few days. Located in low-elevation areas, parks like Oak Point Nature Preserve and others store floodwaters as creeks crest. Looks like they're doing a great job after recent rains!
If you do go out, make sure you are properly attired. Be extra careful when walking on the concrete trails, as standing water causes slippery conditions.
The best thing to do is let Mother Nature run its course and allow the waters to recede before venturing back into these natural areas. You can also check the status of Plano’s dog parks and athletic fields during rain events by visiting https://rainoutline.com/search/dnis/9722102936.

Oak Point Recreation Pool opens today! 🥳 Tune in for our ribbon cutting and take a tour of this amazing facility 🌊
The rain may have kept us from shooting some hoops with Plano Police Department (Texas) on Tuesday, but the excitment for the new Dream Court was not missed at our indoor ribbon-cutting ceremony 🏀 This awesome addition to Willowcreek Park is thanks to the partnership between Nancy Lieberman Charities, Toyota USA and the City of Plano, Texas Government. Thanks to all who came out to The Nature & Retreat Center for this joyous occassion!
Plano is home to three Dream Courts at the Douglass Center, Shawnee Park, and Willowcreek Park. Learn more about Plano's parks at www.planoparks.org.
