Ismaili Jamatkhana Plano

Ismaili Jamatkhana Plano A place for fostering an appreciation of pluralism and for enhancing relationships among faith communities, government and civil society.

The Ismaili Jamatkhana Plano establishes itself in a setting that is contemporary, yet redolent of a historical past that is itself an interweave of encounters across civilizations. From geometry of form that has defined architecture in Islamic contexts to the signs of Nature in water, gardens and light that have characterized its expression over the ages the Ismaili Jamatkhana Plano's design work

s with a fusion between history and contemporaneity. The geometry, series of interlocking octagons is interweaved throughout the facility throough a grandiose of floor patterns, ceiling designs and metallic lattice pieces that embellish the exterior and interior walls, the entrance, Social Lobby and Prayer Hall. With brick, concrete and colors that recall the ochre tones of Fatimid lustreware, and glass surfaces (stained glass) that transmit and project light and visions of nature, the Jamatkhana enables a convergence of thematic diversity for the multiple purposes of the facility (education, prayer and meditation), of improving and promoting a wider understanding of peoples and traditions from near and afar.

Ali Velshi, MSNBC Chief Correspondent, shared his personal and career journey, connecting it to global events and history to highlight the sacrifices made for democracy.

In an intimate conversation with nearly 200 attendees at the Plano Ismaili Jamatkhana and Center, moderated by KERA News Senior Editor Courtney Collins, Velshi emphasized the importance of seemingly small, everyday acts of courage, arguing that these collective efforts can lead to significant social and political change. He concluded with a call to action to all citizens, to vote in the upcoming U.S. elections.

Special thanks to the Dallas County Elections Department, who provided the mock voting stations for attendees to explore, and SAAVETX Education Fund for providing voting collateral, and all the volunteers who made this event a success.
