Ismaili Jamatkhana Plano

Ismaili Jamatkhana Plano A place for fostering an appreciation of pluralism and for enhancing relationships among faith communities, government and civil society. The Ismaili Jamatkhana Plano establishes itself in a setting that is contemporary, yet redolent of a historical past that is itself an interweave of encounters across civilizations.

From geometry of form that has defined architecture in Islamic contexts to the signs of Nature in water, gardens and light that have characterized its expression over the ages the Ismaili Jamatkhana Plano's design works with a fusion between history and contemporaneity. The geometry, series of interlocking octagons is interweaved throughout the facility throough a grandiose of floor patterns, ceiling designs and metallic lattice pieces that embellish the exterior and interior walls, the entrance, Social Lobby and Prayer Hall. With brick, concrete and colors that recall the ochre tones of Fatimid lustreware, and glass surfaces (stained glass) that transmit and project light and visions of nature, the Jamatkhana enables a convergence of thematic diversity for the multiple purposes of the facility (education, prayer and meditation), of improving and promoting a wider understanding of peoples and traditions from near and afar.

An insightful presentation and a great discussion. Thanks to Kimberly O'Neil and everyone in the community who participated.

Yesterday was fun, enlightening, and full of hope. I had the pleasure of serving as the speaker and discussion moderator for the Aga Khan Council for Central United States’ Film Talk Series on Won't You Be My Neighbor? - the documentary on Mister Rogers. Post viewing we focused our discussion on building intentional communities. This was by far one of my top community engagement experiences. Some days the energy and audience can only be described as perfect. This was one of those days. Thank you for trusting me with this experience.

She’s the CEO of Giving Blueprint, a company that increases community engagement through neighborhood revitalization, development of strategic partnerships, advocacy, and civic education. Her work has been instrumental in bridging the gap between the needs of cities and counties and the individuals, businesses, and corporations that serve them. Kimberly also founded Cause Studio, a nonprofit that aids the social sector in reducing the number of failing startup nonprofit organizations. As a political science professor, she was honored as the Outstanding Associate Faculty of the Year for Collin College.

We are thrilled to collaborate with Collin College for the #HistoricCities exhibit. Excellent conversations with a wide group of attendees from colleges and universities across the #DFW area.

On October 15, 2019, the Ismaili Council for the Central United States in collaboration with Collin College - Frisco Campus, held the opening reception of the exhibition "Transforming Cities, Transforming Lives: The Aga Khan Historic Cities Programme".

This international exhibit showcases 27 restoration projects, from nine countries, that demonstrate how regeneration projects in historic areas can spur social, economic and cultural development. The projects of the Aga Khan Historic Cities Programme (AKHCP) have demonstrated that they can have a positive impact well beyond conservation, promoting good governance, the growth of civil society, a rise in incomes and economic opportunities, greater respect for human rights and better stewardship of the environment, even in the poorest and most remote areas of the globe.

Guests at the event included faculty, students and community members. Guests were given guided tours of the exhibit panels followed by a speaker-led discussion on the Aga Khan Trust for Culture's Historic Cities Programme exhibition. The exhibition is free and open to the public from October 15 to November 9 at the Collin College - Frisco Campus.
