PLANO—Future Soldiers from across the Plano Recruiting Company came together for Plano’s Mega Future Soldier training event March 15 at Bob Woodruff Park here.
Future Soldiers from the three main recruiting centers that comprise Plano Company trained on marching—drill and ceremonies in Army speak—including proper salutes, facing movements and various forms of formation.
In addition, Future Soldiers played volleyball, soccer and football and enjoyed hot dogs, hamburgers and all the trimmings for lunch.
Sgt. 1st Class Steven Payne, the Assistant Center Commander for the Plano Recruiting Center said the camaraderie was outstanding and the Future Soldiers all had a great time as well as seeing their recruiters in a different perspective.
“The Future Soldiers here had a lot of positive feedback and enjoyed each other’s company,” he said. “They got to see us and how we relax a little.”

Brinker International, Inc. announced a partnership with the Army Partnership for Youth Success Program (PaYS), which connects companies with young veterans looking for corporate jobs after serving their country. As the first national restaurant company to partner with Army PaYS, Brinker proudly begins a commitment to assist former U.S. military personnel in transferring their skills from real-world situations into restaurant industry careers.
The company honored the new partnership with an official presentation to members of the Dallas branch of the United States Army Recruiting Battalion at Brinker International headquarters this past Friday, April 27, 2012.
“The Army PaYS program provides a crucial service to our Army Veterans by matching skill sets between service members and companies,” said Valerie Davisson, executive vice president and chief PeopleWorks officer for Brinker International. “As a new partner, we take this commitment very seriously and are excited to actively seek and offer viable job opportunities to these brave, young men and women who have fearlessly served our country.”
“Corporate partners like Brinker give young Veterans great career opportunities while also serving as a motivating factor behind Army PaYS recruits deciding to lay their lives on the line for the United States,” said Lt. Col. Russell Elizondo of U.S. Army Recruiting Battalion Dallas. “Thank you for your commitment to invest in the future of our troops.”
Brinker International is one of the world’s leading casual dining restaurant companies, serving more than 1 million guests daily. MESQUITE-- The Real.Texas.Festival. took a brief pause in its entertainment schedule on its Saturday music show to honor a heroic member of the military when Mesquite Mayor John Monaco presented the Key to the City to Staff Sgt. Allen Christopher Doggett.
Doggett was honored for his heroic actions on March 14. He was traveling on I-635 on his way to a recruiting mission when he heard a loud boom from the car in front of him. Doggett noticed there was fire coming from underneath the car. He immediately caught up to the car and started honking and screaming at the driver to pull over. Due to a language barrier, the driver of the vehicle did not immediately pull over. He persisted screaming and honking until the driver finally stopped to see what the problem was.
Doggett told the driver that the car was on fire and they needed to get out right away. The driver was trying to salvage some of his personal belongings from the vehicle until Doggett insisted he abandon the vehicle immediately.
“It is nice to see the city honor people this way. I had never really heard of it. I don't feel like I did anything special,” Doggett said. “This really is a different kind of award than I have received before. It's not something I can pin to my uniform. It is more of a civilian award.”
A few other people eventually stopped to assist and they called police and began directed traffic around the burning car until emergency crews arrived.
He learned he would be receiving the award on Tuesday, April 24, when he receiving an email from his boss informing him that he would need to be at the festival at 5 p.m. in his dress uniform.
“When he told me I asked him why and he told me about the award,” Doggett said. “It makes me feel appreciated but I can saying 'why me?' 'what did I do?'. My wife and mother tell me I did a good thing that was not something a lot of people would have done.”
Doggett, a Longmont, Colo. native, is currently assigned as a recruiter for the Mesquite Recruiting Station. “I like it here in Mesquite. It's a really good place with good people,” Doggett said.
Doggett enlisted in the military in 2005 as an infantryman. He completed his basic and advanced individual training at Fort Benning, Ga. When Doggett completed his training, he was assigned to 2nd Battalion 5th Cavalry and stationed at Fort Hood, Texas.
Doggett has served two tours in Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom, from 2006 to 2008 and 2009 to 2010. He is married to Brittanie and they have a 14 month old daughter, Preslie.
Being in Iraq helped build me as a person. It made me a better person, soldier and father. I am a lot more appreciative of things now,” Doggett said. “People tend to take everyday things for granted.”
