We've got a lot to share this week, but the main thing on our minds is to shout out Ms. Cora Conway. Back to school is never easy at Huffman; the number of transfer students we have makes registration especially tricky. But THIS year, with Skyward—well. We all know how that went. And Cora dealt with the brunt of it and even managed to put a positive spin on it all when *I* at least, let's just say, wasn't there yet. So thank you, Cora. You make the front office a cheerier happier place, and we are so grateful we have you!

Make plans to attend Parent Info Night on Monday, Aug 19 from 5:30-6:30! This meeting will run in two shifts, 5:30-6:00 and 6:00-6:30, so you have time to visit both classrooms if you have multiple students.

Teachers will share important information about your child's grade level like daily schedule, AMP'd classes, IB Units, new attendance policy, and more. Children are welcome to attend, but this quick meeting is informational only and no kid activities are scheduled!

Welcome to The Huff new families! Hope your first day was a huge success! Carpool is different at every school so we've made a handy map to help all of our Hawks get to class safely. Afternoon carpool is in both Gold and Blue lanes, morning is blue lane only.

The first week is always bumpy, but here are tips to make every morning smoother!

1. If you are a walker you need to park on Channel Isle on the other side of Winding Hollow. The crossing guard will safely get you to the correct sidewalk. There is no parking on Channel Isle in front of the school. It's unsafe without a crossing guard, and it messes up the flow of traffic for carpool.

2. There is no parking in the front lot unless you are office staff! If you need to park your car to enter the school please park in the staff and visitor lot on the side of the school. There is a spot for PTA Winner at the front lot. This spot belongs to the person that won it at last spring's Silent Hawktion. If you love it, get that bidding paddle ready this February and it could be yours next!

3. Carpool enters the lot via RIGHT TURN ONLY. See the map that shows the loop off Blackhawk to make sure we aren't using our neighbor's driveways for 3 point turnarounds. You can only enter making a right turn, and exit making a right turn.

4. Don't let your Hawk out until you reach the cones! Driving around the cars that are unloading isn't safe - and neither is dropping kids off in a zone without visible staff!

The last item on our BTS countdown is finishing registration! Parent Portal is moving to a new platform this year - Skyward Family Access. Starting July 22nd at 9AM, returning PISD families can create a new account on Skyward to verify emergency contacts and all that important stuff. Number two on the countdown to get ready for the school year is JOIN THE PTA! Sign up and pay your dues at the link in comments. Joining doesn’t mean you have to volunteer your time (though we hope you will)! The PTA supports a sense of community at Huffman by planning events such as the school dance, family picnic, carnival, class parties, and teacher appreciation events. Your dues help us cover the costs of these events. We also raise funds through spirit nights, book fair, and the silent hawktion. Be a part of one of the best PTAs in PISD - strong PTAs make strong schools!

• Huffman PTA sells school supply packs starting July 1st (plus spirit wear and PTA memberships)!
• The first day of school is August 13, so expect Meet the Teacher on August 12 (or maybe the end of the week prior).
• Make sure your information is up to date in parent portal so you don't miss any "back to school" emails or info!
• Keep an eye on the Community page for summer meetups and playdates! And feel free to plan one if you don't see your child's age group! Some of us are born planners and some are joiners =)

This Saturday, May 18 from 11-1pm, we're meeting in the Huffman park for a family picnic and a Spirit Wear Swap! So if your child ALSO grew out of their very special Hawk gear within two minutes of buying it, you can get the size you need!

👕 Bring your lunch, a blanket, and something to drink!

👕 We'd love to meet our new families, so if you're new to Huffman, score some free gear, and meet your future classmates!

For those new to Huffman, or those of us who are just wondering, we sell school supplies a little differently than some of the other area schools. Ordering opens up July 1 for school supplies, spirit wear, and 24-25 PTA memberships! More info to come, watch this space!
