Today was an exciting day for the North Texas Pioneers Rotary! Ten of us members went to Lovepacs in Plano and packed boxes of food for the children who would otherwise go hungry during the holidays. It is a very rewarding organization which as of 2022 has served 3.5 million needy children during school holiday breaks. Thank you Lovepacs! ❤️

We all know how expensive food has become. Yesterday was a great day for our club, we were able to fill 70 love pack boxes for the Plano ISD children needing help with food. What a great organization. A lot Love was put in those boxes along with friendship and fun.

Last night our meeting was off site at “The Parks” Nursing Home in Plano. We had an Easter party with games, song along and snacks. The Easter Bunny even made an appearance and took pictures with the residents. Fun, fun evening. Thank you Pioneer members for your help and our very own Will Harris for playing the Easter Bunny.

The Pioneers gave a Valentines Party to the residents of The Parks nursing home in plano. They so enjoyed decorating cookies, playing chair volley ball and especially singing love songs.

The Rotary Clubs of Plano along with the City of Plano are very excited about the return of the long-standing tradition of parades to the City. We have been monitoring the weather for today’s parade very closely for the past week.

After consulting with the Plano Office of Emergency Management, there is a high potential for rain, thunderstorms with possible lightning this morning during the scheduled hours of the parade and Holiday festival.

Therefore, the difficult decision has been made to cancel the 2022 Holiday Parade and Festival.

The decision was made to cancel the Holiday Parade and Festival for the following logistical reasons:
If lightning is present in the area, parade participants on the parade route would not be able to seek shelter in a safe or timely manner.
• Potential thunderstorms and/or lightning could endanger participants riding on parade floats.
• The staging areas at the beginning and end of the parade are heavily concentrated with participants and vehicles and would take time to evacuate.
• Parade attendees that are currently lining the streets would not be able to seek shelter quickly, if needed.
• If the parade was canceled halfway through, there would be no reunification process for students/children and their parents.
• Many parade units and cars driving in the parade have already been canceled due to concerns with the weather.
Parade committee volunteers are currently notifying parade units and individuals that are signed up for the parade and Festival of the cancellation.
We understand the amount of time and work that goes into each parade unit, and we share everyone’s disappointment in this outcome. However, with the information provided to the Rotary Clubs of Plano by Plano Office of Emergency Management, we do not feel confident that the parade would be safe for participants or attendees. Unfortunately, we cannot negotiate with mother nature, and it is our responsibility to ensure public safety above all else.
The Rotary Clubs of Plano thanks the City of Plano, our sponsors, participants and volunteers for their full support and we appreciate everyone's understanding in this decision. We hope to see you all next year for the 2023 July 4th and Holiday Parades.

The Rotary Parades of Plano and The City of Plano are monitoring the weather for Saturday morning’s parade and Holiday Festival. We are working with the Plano Office of Emergency Management to obtain the most accurate and up to date weather information.

As of 8:00 a.m. Friday, December 9th, the front bringing heavier rainfall totals and potential thunderstorms appears to be arriving between noon and 1:00 p.m. While there is a potential for rain before the front passes through, the currently projected rainfall totals are .01 inch. Based on this information and consultation with P.I.S.D. and the City of Plano, WE PLAN TO GO FORWARD WITH THE HOLIDAY PARADE. However, we feel it is necessary to cancel the festival afterwards for the safety of all involved.

Please check the parade website (www.rotaryparadesofplano.com), and social media for further updates. We will update those sources first with any additional changes. The final decision on the parade will be made by 6:00am on Saturday, December 10th.
