Today we recognized a few good NCO’s with an award from Brigade for their first contracts. Top Recruiters in the station and for the quarter! Plano Station also received an award from Dallas BN for 100% Mission Accomplishment for 2nd quarter and Plano Company took home the Top Army Reserve Company for 1st and 2nd quarter!! Good job Team you deserve it!!!!

1st Lt. Sam Chelanga finished in second place at the 2021 USA Track & Field Half Marathon Championships on December 5th held in Hardeeville, South Carolina. Chelanga ran the half marathon in 1:00:59, earning him a spot on Team USATF for the 2022 World Athletics Half Marathon Championships being held March 27, 2022 in Yangzhou, China.

Action movies often serve as a motivator for young boys and girls to one day become real-life heroes. This was certainly the case for Sgt. Dakota Norris.
"The Army was something I knew I always wanted to do, but I had no idea when I wanted to do it,” said Norris, who currently serves as an Army recruiter in Plano, Texas. “I grew up during the times of Lord of the Rings and Star Wars. I would see that, and I knew I wanted to be a warrior, I wanted to be a Soldier.
Years later, he solidified his childhood dreams and became a paratrooper in the famous 82nd Airborne Division. Although he is on recruiting duty now, Norris plans to return to the skies as an infantryman in the future. With a go-getter mentality, Norris credits the infantry as a secondary motivator for enlisting.
“I wanted to be the one on the frontlines, and I wanted to be the one leading the fight, not sitting back watching things happen,” he said. “ However, combat is not everything you think it is. It can be very horrible. But I knew I wanted to fight the fight."
Norris says his biggest Army achievement so far has been completing the Special Forces Assessment and Selection program.
He persevered and made it through the grueling course in its entirety. He was not selected, but he still found a way to learn from the experience.
"Even though I failed, the experience allowed me to realize through perseverance I can overcome any failure, I can do anything I set my mind to do," Norris said.
Norris continues to lead from the front and offers this final piece of advice to young people everywhere contemplating on joining the Army, "if you are thinking about joining the Army, do it. The only person stopping you is you."
