We love Easter at CLC! One of our favorite things to do with your littles is to go through the story of Easter using resurrection eggs! Telling the story through resurrection eggs helps children learn the story by having something concrete to look at to represent each part of the story. Look around your home and see if you can put together your own set of eggs to go with the Easter story! ✝️🐰🥚💛

Each week at CLC we send home a Praying Parent card. This week's card is so relevant! We know that the Bible says "You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you" Isaiah 26:3. When we focus on Jesus and abide in His word, he gives us peace to make it through uncertain times. We know that when our children grow up, they won't remember what we taught them during this time, but they will remember how we acted and how we responded. Let's show our children how to seek Jesus for comfort!

If you're unsure of how to get into the Word with your child, check out "Bible App for Kids" that can be downloaded from the app store on your phone. Check out the comments for some of our favorite songs we sing in Chapel!

At CLC, we believe in learning through play. One of our favorite ways to play that you could easily do at home is sensory play! Sensory Play sounds fancy, but it’s so easy to do with items that you already have around your home. This kind of play is important because it stimulates children’s senses (hearing, seeing, touching, tasting and smelling). Sensory play entices their curiosity and encourages kids to explore while they create, investigate and learn through play.

Sensory activities allow children to refine their thresholds for different sensory information, helping their brain to create stronger connections to process and respond to information. It helps to build nerve connections in the brain’s pathways and encourages language development, cognitive growth, motor skills, problem solving, and social interaction.

AND the cool thing about sensory bins is that they can literally be made with ANYTHING you already have at home! Cereal, rice, shaving cream, dirt from your garden, water, or you could get fancy and make cloud dough (4 cups flour, ½ cup oil). Anything can be used for scoops; empty toilet paper tubes, measuring cups, cups from a play kitchen, funnels, spoons, scoops, etc. Allow children to get messy and explore (which usually keeps them entertained for a long time) and know that you’re helping stimulate their brain and develop important neural pathways!

Send us pictures of what sensory activities you’re doing at your home!

Chapel with Ms. Jen

An encouraging word from our Chapel teacher at CLC North, Ms. Jen! And check out the link to see her giving a chapel lesson for your children to watch! In the comments, we'll link some of our favorite chapel songs that your children love to sing & dance to!

"To teachers - thank you for working so diligently to try and get students what they need. You were not prepared for this, nor have you ever experienced this, so we are grateful for ALL you are doing to help school carry on.
To principals, preachers, and other leaders - thank you for getting the brunt of it all. I would not want to be in your shoes having to make the decisions you are facing. We pray you continue to seek the Lord for discernment and know we are praying over you as well.
To first responders/doctors/nurses and their families - a huge thank you. We can’t say that enough. You will never have the choice to “self contain” because you are on the front lines. We are grateful for the continued sacrifices you make and we are praying for you.
To grocery store managers/associates - y’all are gett’n it done!! What chaos it’s been for you and you continue to work round the clock. And again, no self-containment for you as you provide people the daily necessities they need. We are grateful!
To full-time working parents that are now teachers as well - you are doing amazing!! I know you feel overwhelmed, but God sees you and He can give you strength and endurance as you juggle your over flowing plate. Crank the praise music up, have a third cup of coffee, and dig into Him for peace and patience.
To parents with all ages at home - hang in there!! I know the needy loud toddler is not helping you teach adverbs and the sleepless nights with your littles do not give you the patience to go over the phases of the moon for the 10th time or try and figure out what a Monastery was in the Middle Ages. Let His joy be your strength, eat a candy bar in the closet, and pray over those babies every chance you get.
To those that have always been homeschooling moms - Y’all ROCK. We all have a new respect for you and think you totally deserve recognition.
To church staff - thank you for checking on us, trying to keep us informed, praying over us, and giving us ways we can be the hands and feet of Jesus in the midst of all this.
To those concerned about finances - the Lord will provide. He will. Some how, some way. He has always been faithful and always will be faithful to those that love and seek Him."

“Know that the Lord is God. It is He who made us, and we are His; we are His people, the sheep of His pasture. Enter His gates with thanksgiving and His courts with praise; give thanks to Him and praise His name. For the Lord is good and His love endures forever; His faithfulness continues through all generations.” Psalm 100"

Happy Thursday! Today we’re sharing fun ideas of how to explore butterflies!

Some of our classes were planning on watching the transformation of caterpillars into chrysalises into butterflies. This metamorphosis process is magical for children to watch as caterpillars grow and turn into beautiful butterflies. We know a favorite book is The Very Hungry Caterpillar and we bet that most of you have this book at home. Think about reading that book to your children and pairing it with one or two of these fun activities!

Make a caterpillar out of the edge of a paper plate. Allow children to cut the plate themselves—this builds hand muscles and fine motor skills.

Tape some circles up onto your wall in the shape of a caterpillar and allow children to match stickers with the different circles. Working upright like this builds arm and shoulder muscles which are very important for writing skills! If you don’t have any stickers, think about placing the circles on the floor and having your child match blocks, Lego, stuffed animals, or various toys to the colors.

Make a caterpillar out of a pipe cleaner or yarn and cheerios! Threading cheerios onto a pipe cleaner works on those fine motor skills!

“Feed the caterpillar” by throwing bean bags, balls, or stuffed animals into an empty basket. See how much YOUR very hungry caterpillar can eat before getting full! For additional fun, you can count the numbers that were fed to the caterpillar.

Gather up some playdoh and various objects from your home to make playdoh butterflies!

Grab and empty box and draw a caterpillar on it. Poke holes in the caterpillar and allow your toddler to push pom-poms, blocks, colored pasta, or anything you may have around your home into the various holes. Work on color recognition and sorting as you put the pink block into the pink caterpillar hole.

Make your food butterfly shaped for lunch or snack!

We miss your littles and your family so much! We hope you are all staying well! In an effort to still be available for you and your family, we wanted to share a few ideas of things you could do today to explore learning about rain! ☔️⛈

Create a rain sensory bin: Grab an empty bin of any kind and fill it with an inch or two of water. Grab 2-3 plastic cups and poke a few holes in the bottoms. Drop a few cotton balls into the bin for clouds. Allow your children to scoop and pour water from one cup into another (this is a great practice for building muscles in their wrists that will later help with their writing!). As water drains from holes in the bottoms of the cups, talk with your child about how it looks and sounds like rain! As you squeeze the cotton balls (great at building hand muscles which leads to fine motor skills!) they can see the "rain" falling from the "clouds"!

"Puddle" jumping: Cut out "rain puddles" from blue paper and have children jump from one puddle to another. Add shapes, letters, or numbers and ask them to name the shape/letter/number as they jump on each puddle.

Make an umbrella craft: Cut a paper plate in half and let your child paint, color, glue paper, or stick stickers onto the plate. Attach a pipe cleaner or another piece of paper to make an umbrella craft!

Sensory bottles are a great way to engage your infant and toddlers! Fill an empty plastic water bottle with water, confetti, glitter, cotton balls, food coloring, beads, anything that is blue/white and resembles rain. Be sure to glue the lid closed before allowing your kiddo to explore and play with it!

Make a rain stick: Let your child paint/color/sticker an empty toilet paper tube and fill it with dry rice or beans to make a rain stick. Cover the top with wax paper or tape and listed to the "rain" as the rice/beads move from one end of the rain stick to the other!

Explore wind and clouds: Blow up some blue & white balloons and let children blow them and bop them around the living room. Talk to your children about how the wind blows the clouds in the sky!

We love you and are praying for you during this time of uncertainty! Please let us know how we can be praying for you and your family!

Enjoy your time with family and we will see you in a week!
