πΌπ June is National Pollinator Month! π¦π»
Did you know that nearly 1 out of every 3 bites of food we eat depends on pollinators? These incredible animals help plants reproduce by moving pollen from one flower to another, supporting healthy ecosystems and food production around the world.
When people think of pollinators, honey bees often come to mind, but many other animals play an important role, including:
π Native bees
π¦ Butterflies and moths
π Beetles
π¦ Hummingbirds
π¦ Bats
π Wasps and other insects
Pollinators help produce fruits, vegetables, nuts, and seeds while also supporting the wildflowers and native plants that provide food and shelter for wildlife.
Unfortunately, many pollinator populations face challenges from habitat loss, pesticide use, invasive species, and climate change. The good news is that everyone can help! Planting native flowers, reducing pesticide use, and providing habitat can make a big difference.
Throughout National Pollinator Month, we'll be highlighting some of the amazing pollinators that call Florida home and sharing ways you can help support them.
Help us protect these integral species that help make the world go around. πππΌ
