🎉 Congratulations to Captain Jay Jenkins! 🚒

Please join us in congratulating Jay Jenkins on his promotion from Lieutenant to Captain of Station 2!

Captain Jenkins joined the Plantation Fire Department in July 2010. Throughout his career, he advanced to Crew Chief before being promoted to Lieutenant in November 2018, and now proudly takes on his new role as Captain.

When he’s not at the firehouse, Captain Jenkins enjoys spending time with his family, watching his son play baseball, cheering on his daughter as she rides her horse, and spending time on the water boating and fishing. ⚾🐴🎣

Congratulations to Paramedic Travis Kerr!

Travis has successfully completed his 3-week orientation and assessments with our rescue division, and received his badge from Chief Todd this morning.

Travis is now assigned to C-shift. We look forward to seeing great things ahead!

Plantation Fire Department units responded to the 300 block of NW 45th Terrace following reports of smoke coming from the attic of a residence.

Upon arrival, firefighters located a fire in the attic and quickly worked to bring it under control.

Thankfully, no injuries were reported.

🔥 TRACTOR TRAILER FIRE ON THE FLORIDA TURNPIKE 🔥

Plantation Fire crews Engine 56, Engine 276, Battalion Chief 225, and Squad 77 responded this morning to a tractor trailer fire on the Florida Turnpike.

The driver of the truck did an outstanding job reacting quickly, detaching the trailer from the cab and safely driving the excavator off the trailer, protecting the heavy equipment from the spreading fire.

Then our crews quickly knocked down the fire. No injuries. And the turnpike lanes that were blocked are back open.

We also want to recognize a BSO detective and a Hollywood Fire Rescue Deputy Chief who happened to be passing by and immediately stopped to help. They used their vehicles to help block traffic and protect our firefighters while crews worked to extinguish the fire. That kind of teamwork between public safety agencies is always appreciated. 🚒🚓

Thankfully, our crews were able to bring the fire under control.

As you head out on the road today, remember: wear your seat belt, put the phone down, and don’t speed. Give emergency crews plenty of room when you see us working along the roadway.

WE NEVER STOP TRAINING. Plantation is ready when it matters. At 8 am this morning our crews recently conducted a Surface Water Rescue Drill.

Practicing the procedures, teamwork, and using the equipment needed to respond when someone is in distress in a pool, canal, lake, or other body of water.

This drill helps ensure our firefighters & rescue are always prepared to act quickly when seconds count. But the best water rescue is the one we can prevent from happening.

As families enjoy South Florida’s pools, the beach, and waterways, remember our water-safety motto:

👀💧 WATCH THE WATER. WATCH THE KIDS.

Never assume someone else is watching.

Designate a responsible adult to actively supervise children around water, stay within reach of young or inexperienced swimmers, and eliminate distractions.

Train for the rescue. Educate for prevention. Protect our community.

Our Live Fire Training Instructor (LFTI) candidates participated in two live burns this week using our LP props at our training center. These controlled burn events allow the candidates to put into practice the statutes, ordinances, accountability structures, and safety principles that govern live fire training. We were incredibly fortunate to have Gabriel Reguera, son of EMS Crew Chief Willie Reguera, provide photography for this week’s practicals. Our candidates and Gabriel have bright futures ahead!

Thank you Jon Smith Subs Plantation for the donation of the food for our LIVE Burn this morning at our Training Center!

All of our Firefighters at drill really loved the food. And it was very hot outside so the sandwiches really hit the spot after being in the burn box!
