“Public Service Announcement - RED LIGHTS /RED AND WHITE LIGHTS on Vehicles

Have you ever seen someone driving behind you with a RED or RED/WHITE flashing light? What does that RED or RED/WHITE light mean?

In Louisiana , flashing RED or RED/WHITE lights displayed (with no BLUE flashing lights) on a vehicle indicates a volunteer firefighter is responding to a 911 call in their personal vehicle. They are responding to their firehouse, or to the scene to provide the manpower needed for the emergency.

If you see a passenger car with a flashing RED or RED/WHITE light, please consider treating it like any other emergency vehicle; we (your Community Volunteers) are requesting the right of way - this is a courtesy light. When it is safe to do so, please pull over to the right and come to a complete stop, so that we may travel safely past.

Many people don't realize what these flashing RED or RED/WHITE lights are for. Every second counts. Help us help you. You never know, we could be responding to an emergency for a friend, or one of your loved ones.

I'm writing this to inform the community, I will no longer be the Chief in our area. I do not have the time to dedicate to the community as the community needs.

Sorry for the inconvenience,

"These Eyes"

You think you know all about me, but you haven’t got a clue. You know that I’m a firefighter… but do you know the truth of what I do?

It isn't always saves and glory, like you see on a TV show. These eyes have seen some things, things you probably don’t really want to know.

I’ll tell you a little bit about what they see, so you can try to understand, why we run towards the danger, why we’re quick to lend a hand.

These eyes have seen the lifeless body of a young man hanging from a door. Nothing we could do for him, except ask God to have mercy on his soul.

These eyes have seen crushed metal, yet left a person unharmed. Wondering how is it that they survived, not injured, just alarmed.

These eyes have seen the fury of a fire raging all on its own. Devouring everything in its path, as if it were terrible monster out of control.

These eyes have seen the elderly, relentlessly apologizing for their fall. Embarrassed to have had to call us, saying we shouldn't even be there at all.

These ears have heard the screams, of a mother losing her son. This heart has felt the pain, of those who have just lost a loved one.

These hands have held the bloody stump of a man who lost a leg. I've also had to deal with drunks, who weren't too proud to beg.

My body’s been attacked, I've been called some ugly names. I've been consumed by the smoke, I’ve also danced with the flames.

You may be asking why I stay? Why do what I do?
I'll share a little secret, just this between me and you.

It’s something I have deep inside. It’s really hard to explain. The reason why we give our all, the reason why we train.

It’s so we can give a fighting chance, during the worst day of someone's life. We want to help a child, or a sick and aging wife.

We care about our neighbors, we’ll try and help you live. But the number one reason is… we want to take less than we give."
