⭐🔥 FIRST RESPONDER SPOTLIGHT
👨‍🚒DEPARTMENT DIRECTOR SHAUN BORDELON
Fire & Emergency Services – Iberville Parish

Some people choose the fire service. Some people stumble into it. And then there are people like Shaun Bordelon — born with the spark already in him.

Shaun’s journey started as a young Junior Firefighter in White Castle, and from the moment he pulled on that first set of gear, he was hooked. The adrenaline may have drawn him in, but it’s his deep love for protecting his community that kept him climbing the ranks all the way to Department Director of Fire & Emergency Services, overseeing Iberville Parish Fire Departments.

And yes… he’ll admit it: What firefighter doesn’t enjoy playing with fire just a little?

But behind the humor is a man who carries a tremendous responsibility — and does it with humility, grit, and a steady calm that has anchored this parish more times than most people will ever know.

🔥🤝A Leader Who Builds Bridges
When asked what he loves most about his role today, Shaun didn’t talk about titles or authority. He talked about bringing the parish together— uniting departments, strengthening teamwork, and building a fire service family that supports one another on and off the scene.

He’s faced challenges in his life that could have held him back, but instead, they shaped him into a leader who is more patient, more understanding, and more determined than ever. Shaun rises above obstacles with the same quiet strength he brings to every emergency call.

🔧🚗 Favorite Tool?

Extrication. Because nothing says “good morning” like tearing a vehicle apart with precision and purpose. (And honestly… we agree.)

❤️👨‍🚒 A Heart for His People
When asked what he wishes the public understood about his job, Shaun didn’t make it about himself. He spoke about all of us — the firefighters & dedicated first responders beside him, especially the volunteers whose sacrifices often go unseen:

🌙 Long nights
🔥 Live fire training
📚 Classroom hours
🧯 Endless hands on drills
🚑 And rural response times that can stretch over 45 minutes before an ambulance arrives

He wanted the community to understand their dedication. That’s who Shaun is — humble, thoughtful, and always shining the light on others.

🍽️⚡ Lightning Round (and yes, he broke rules)

🍝 Comfort food: Pastalaya (and yes, I’m inviting myself to dinner)
🍲 Gumbo or Jambalaya? He said Pastalaya. Rebel.
🍖 BBQ or Crawfish Boil? BBQ — this Yankee was shocked.
🌶️ Hot sauce: Mild
☕ Coffee: NONE. Zero. Not even a sip. (I’m still recovering.)
🥤 Drink of choice: Dr. Pepper — apparently it counts as caffeine in his world
🍟 Favorite chips: Zapp’s Crawfish
🎣 Off duty hobby: Redfishing — because even heroes need quiet water and a good cast

And the one thing he wants everyone to remember?
🔋 CHANGE. YOUR. SMOKE. DETECTOR. BATTERIES.
(Yes, he said it with that level of passion.)

🌟🌪️ The Calm in the Storm

Shaun is the steady voice on the radio, the level head on scene, and the leader who brings out the best in the people around him. He’s fun, energetic, compassionate, and fiercely dedicated to the parish he serves.

On behalf of Iberville Parish: Thank you, Shaun, for your service, your leadership, and your unwavering commitment to our community. Our Fire & Emergency Services are stronger, safer, and better because of you.

Some people see fire and step back.
Our people see fire and step forward.

If that picture speaks to something in you — that spark, that pull, that “I could do that” feeling — don’t ignore it. Iberville Parish needs people who don’t wait for someone else to act.

We need the ones who run in.
The ones who stay steady.
The ones who choose courage on purpose.

If you’re ready to join the fight and become the hero your community can count on, the Iberville Firefighters Association is ready for you.
No experience needed. Just heart.

When this parish is on fire — literally or figuratively — somebody has to run toward it. Most people don’t. Most people freeze, watch, or wait for someone else to step up.

But Iberville Parish doesn’t run on “most people.”
It runs on the few who are willing to train, sweat, and show up when it counts.

If you’ve ever wondered whether you’re built for more…
If you’ve ever felt that pull in your gut when you see firefighters in action…
If you’ve ever thought, “I could do that” — then prove it.

We’re recruiting.
We’ll train you.
We’ll back you.
But the courage? That part has to come from you.

Step up. Answer the call. Iberville Parish needs you.

Today we pause to honor and remember the men and women who gave their lives in service to our communities. Their courage, sacrifice, and steadfast commitment protected our families, our neighbors, and the freedoms we cherish. We hold their memory with deep gratitude and stand with the families and loved ones who carry their loss every day.

Memorial Day is more than a holiday or a day off to barbecue and picnic — it is a solemn reminder of the cost of our safety and liberty. As members of the Iberville Firefighters Association, we recognize that every call answered, every training completed, and every moment spent preparing to serve is a tribute to those who paid the ultimate price. Their example calls us to honor them not only with words, but with continued service and care for our community.

We recommit today to the values they lived—duty, courage, and compassion—and to supporting one another in service and in sorrow. To the families who grieve, we offer our deepest respect and our promise to remember. To our members and neighbors, we pledge to carry their legacy forward in every shift, every response, and every act of kindness.

With deepest respect and gratitude,
Iberville Firefighters Association

I need to take a moment to publicly own something that was 100% on me — no excuses, no sugar‑coating, just the truth. In my recent dispatch appreciation post, I accidentally left out our Iberville Parish OEP/E911 dispatchers. And trust me… nobody feels that sting harder than someone who has spent half their life being the one left out. So yes, I’ve been kicking myself ever since.

Let me be crystal clear:
OEP/E911, y’all are absolute rockstars.
You are the calm in the chaos, the steady voices guiding our firefighters through every call, and the unseen heroes who keep this parish running. You deserve recognition every single day — and the fact that I missed you in that moment was MY mistake, not a reflection of your importance.

Now that I finally understand the difference between all the dispatch entities (because apparently my brain took a personal day when that memo went out), I promise this:
It will be made right, and nobody will ever forget y’all again.

Thank you, OEP/E911, for everything you do.
You are seen. You are appreciated. And you will never be left out again — not on my watch.

As EMS Week comes to a close, Day 7 is a moment to pause, reflect, and recognize the strength of Iberville Parish — a strength built by every responder, every department, and every community that stands behind them.

Across our parish, responders from Bayou Blue Volunteer Fire Department, White Castle Volunteer Fire Department, Plaquemine Fire Department, East Iberville Volunteer Fire Department, Grosse Tete/Rosedale Volunteer Fire Department, Maringouin Volunteer Fire Department, Bayou Goula Volunteer Fire Department, Bayou Sorrel/Pigeon Volunteer Fire Department, and the Iberville Parish Sheriff’s Office Dispatch serve side‑by‑side. Different stations, different uniforms, different districts — but one mission, one purpose, and one parish.

When the call comes in, boundaries disappear.
What remains is teamwork, trust, and a shared commitment to protecting the people of Iberville.

This week has highlighted the many pieces that make our system strong:
Training.
Education.
Preparedness.
Community outreach.
Compassion.
Courage.
And above all — unity.

Our responders are more than the work they do. They are the steady hands in crisis, the reassuring voices in fear, the neighbors who show up when it matters most. They bring heart to every call, and that heart is what binds this parish together.

To every responder in Iberville Parish — thank you.
Thank you for the long nights, the early mornings, the tough calls, and the quiet moments of care that no one else ever sees.
Thank you for supporting one another across districts, across agencies, and across the parish.
Thank you for proving, time and time again, that when Iberville stands together, we are stronger than anything we face.

As EMS Week ends, our appreciation does not.
Today, we honor not just the individuals, but the unity that makes Iberville Parish a community built on service, strength, and heart.

Happy EMS Week, Day 7 — celebrating one parish, one purpose, and the responders who make it all possible.

Across Iberville Parish, these men and women are the steady hands in moments of crisis. They are the calm voices in chaos, the problem‑solvers on the worst days, and the ones who bring comfort, care, and hope when our residents need it most.

Their work is demanding.
Their hours are unpredictable.
And their dedication never wavers.

Whether they serve full‑time, part‑time, or as volunteers, every responder in this parish plays a vital role in keeping our communities safe. They train, they prepare, and they respond — day or night, rain or shine — because they believe in the people they serve.

Today, we honor their courage.
We honor their professionalism.
And we honor the heart they bring to every call.

To all EMS providers and first responders across Iberville Parish: thank you.
Thank you for your service, your sacrifice, and your commitment to protecting our families, our neighbors, and our communities. This parish is stronger because of you.

Happy EMS Week, Day 6 — celebrating the responders who make a difference every single day.
