I appreciate the continued attention being brought to these critical flood mitigation and drainage issues affecting our communities. Since stepping into the role of State Representative for District 60, this has been one of my top priorities, and I have remained actively engaged in conversations with local leaders, state agencies, stakeholders, and legislative partners as well as the Governor & his team to push for real, long-term solutions.
I also understand the frustration, concerns, and mistrust many people have surrounding this issue. For years, these problems have been discussed with little to no visible progress, and I understand why many residents are tired of hearing promises without seeing results. Our communities deserve more than conversations and temporary bandaid fixes.
This area continues carrying a major burden when it comes to flood relief for surrounding regions, while many of our own long-term infrastructure needs remain unresolved. That is unacceptable, and it is exactly why accountability, transparency, and consistent pressure on decision-makers must remain a priority.
The Parish President and I are working together to ensure stakeholders are fully informed and that we remain in front of agencies and decision-makers every opportunity we get to fight for the funding these projects require. This will take strong collaboration at the local, state, and regional levels, including participation from neighboring parishes, legislators, agencies, and community members to make sure these projects are done correctly.
I have already begun collaborating with fellow Representatives, Senators & members of Congress because this issue is bigger than politics it’s about protecting our communities, our homes, our businesses, and our future.
I will continue pushing for solutions, accountability, and action not more talk and not more temporary fixes.
Protecting Iberville Parish starts with planning. 🚧 🌧️
One of the concerns we hear most from residents is the ongoing sediment buildup and flood risk within the Lower Grand River area. To help address these challenges, President Daigle has officially submitted a state and federal funding request for the Lower Grand River Sediment Removal & Regional Flood Risk Reduction Project.
The proposed project would focus on removing sediment accumulation that restricts water flow and contributes to drainage issues throughout the region — helping strengthen flood mitigation efforts, improve resilience during heavy rainfall events, and better protect nearby homes, property, and infrastructure.
President Daigle and the Parish Council remain committed to pursuing every available opportunity to secure funding for critical drainage and infrastructure improvements across Iberville Parish.
We will continue to keep residents updated as this request progresses through the review process.
