Last night, the Platte City Northland Regional Ambulance District crew came down and showed our firefighters the ambulance. They have new cots that are slightly different than the old ones, but we all need to know how to operate them. After that, it was a tour of the ambulance so we can locate extra supplies while on scene. Even though we run a lot of calls with them, we still need a refresher every so often. Big Thank You to Jake (BC), Mallory and Carl!!!!

Yesterday, the crew from B Shift gave a class on proper fire extinguisher use to the workers at the new Purina building east of Platte City. The simulated fire was the white bucket.

Last month, A Shift along with Chief Miller, rescued this little girl from a fender well. She traveled from Smithville to Tracy. The first pic is the lady who owned the car along with her daughter and granddaughter. Didn’t take much convincing to keep her.
She was appropriately named Halli, after the infamous firefighting tool, The Halligan Bar.
She is super cute and loves everyone here.
Happy 1 month gotcha day Halli.

This afternoon we ran a Carbon Monoxide call at a residence. The heating and cooling company was there doing some work. Some brazing work with a torch was done, and the CO alarms activated. They called their boss, who called us. When our crew made entry, they had 110 ppm at the front door. 170 ppm at the furnace/water heater, 160 ppm upstairs and 65 ppm in the garage. After turning the furnace off and ventilating the structure, readings returned to 0. Thank goodness the home had CO detectors near and throughout the home.
Please make sure you have good ones in working order.

EDIT. A big shoutout to Liberty Utilities for their quick response as usual and to our crew. They weren’t in full gear and SCBA very long, but they were all soaked when they removed their gear!
