PGFPD is working with The Department of Wildlife to safely secure an animal in the area.

For everyone’s safety, 11th Street is closed between Birch Street and Vine Street. Please avoid the area and do not approach or attempt to interact with the animal.

DOW is asking everyone to stay away from the area to give the animal the space it needs to remain calm while crews work to safely secure it.

Please use an alternate route and follow the direction of emergency personnel. We appreciate your cooperation as we work to safely resolve the situation.

We know seeing water flow from a hydrant during a drought can raise questions. Annual hydrant testing is an essential part of keeping our community safe. It allows us to verify that each hydrant is working properly, provides adequate water flow, and is ready if firefighters need it during an emergency.

Monthly Siren Testing Reminder: Platteville & Gilcrest

Hello, Platteville and Gilcrest residents! This is a reminder that on the first Saturday of every month (April through October), both towns conduct a test of the audible alert siren system at approximately 10:00 AM.

🗓️ Test Details
Duration: A brief test lasting about one minute.
Schedule: Monthly on the first Saturday (April–October).
Weather Policy: To avoid confusion, tests will be canceled if there is an active weather event or significant cloud cover.

🏠 Indoor vs. Outdoor Safety
Please remember that sirens are designed to alert those who are outside to seek shelter; they are not always audible indoors. For indoor notifications, we strongly encourage all residents to sign up for CodeRed.

🚨 What to do in a Real Emergency
If the sirens sound outside of a scheduled test:
Seek Shelter: Move to the innermost room or hallway of your residence immediately.
Stay Safe: Stay away from windows and do not go outside.
Emergency Warning: A 3-minute steady tone (may be sounded multiple times).
"All Clear": A 30-second up-and-down tone.
Stay Informed: Follow instructions provided via CodeRed, radio, or local news.
