This week the duck scavenger hunt is highlighting a cool event happening tomorrow June 3rd at 8am. Area law enforcement will be participating in the annual Torch Run in support of Wisconsin Special Olympics. The run will begin at the Center for the Arts on the UW-Platteville campus and travel down Main Street to Water Street. The run will then end at Dunkin Donuts (of course). We hope to see you bright and early tomorrow to cheer us on.

The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) urges ATV and UTV riders to review recent law changes that take effect June 1.

Numerous law changes and updates pertaining to ATV and UTV operation are detailed in the 2026 ATV/UTV regulations.

Updates include:

Operators and passengers are all required to wear a seatbelt in a UTV.
Intentionally causing damage with an ATV or UTV can cost you more than a fine – up to three times the cost to repair the damage.
ATV or UTV operators may not tow objects bearing any person on a trail or route. Towing persons on ice is limited to 10 mph.
UTVs now have window tint restrictions.
For questions or clarification regarding these new rules, contact your local DNR conservation warden or DNR Customer Service at 888-936-7463 (888-WDNRINFO).

"As always ride safe by wearing your helmets and seatbelts, knowing the rules and riding sober," said Lt. Jacob Holsclaw, DNR off-highway vehicle administrator.

Learn more about riding safely in Wisconsin and sign up for a safety course on the DNR’s website.

The Platteville Police Department would like to remind residents to PLEASE remember to lock your vehicles and to not leave your keys in your vehicle overnight. Over the last month, we've taken four reports of vehicles being stolen. All of them were left unlocked and had keys inside. We've also had an uptick in vehicles being rummaged through with property reported missing.

If you find yourself to be a victim of either of these crimes, we encourage you to call the Platteville Police Department at 608-348-2313. And as always; if you see something, say something.
