Fall is right around the corner, and the Clinton County Sheriff’s Office is getting ready for the upcoming parades, trunk-or-treats, and Halloween events throughout our community! 🎃👻

We’re asking our community to help us make sure we have plenty of treats to share with the kids. We are accepting candy donations as well as monetary donations to help make these events extra special for our local youth.

📅 Donations are being accepted through October 5th.

🍫 Candy can be dropped off at the Clinton County Sheriff’s Office or mailed to our office.

💰 Monetary donations can also be made through the Clinton County Sheriffs Foundation Venmo using the QR code on the flyer.

No donation is too small, and every contribution helps us create those simple moments that kids remember for years to come. We appreciate our community always coming together to support our youth!

🇺🇸 Happy Labor Day Weekend from the Clinton County Sheriff’s Office! 🇺🇸

Labor Day is more than just a long weekend. It’s a time to recognize and appreciate the hard work of the people who keep our communities, businesses, families, and country moving forward.

This weekend, while many are enjoying time with family and friends, there are still countless people working, including our deputies, dispatchers, firefighters, EMS personnel, healthcare workers, road crews, utility workers, restaurant and retail employees, and so many others.

To everyone working this weekend: thank you for showing up, putting in the hours, and serving others. Your work matters, and it doesn’t go unnoticed.

For those fortunate enough to have the weekend off, enjoy it! Spend some time with family, fire up the grill, get out on the water, or simply take a well deserved break.

And if you're traveling, please buckle up , slow down, stay alert, and never drive impaired. We want everyone to enjoy the holiday weekend and make it home safely.

This intensive four-and-a-half-day seminar is specifically designed to prepare top law enforcement leaders for command-level challenges. Following FBI-LEEDA’s proven “Cops Teaching Cops” professional development model, the course equips officers with tangible, best-practice strategies to lead with integrity, strength, and vision.

During the training, Lt. Meierer and Sgt. Dredge dove deep into critical leadership topics, including:

•Team Building for Effectiveness and Creativity
•Ethical and Command Decision-Making
•Resilient Leadership
•Leading the Challenging Employee

Some excellent news from CP Excavating. They have completed enough work on Southbound I-35 that we opened it up today. Northbound will remain one lane with hopes of opening in the coming weeks.

We remind everyone to continue to be vigilant in this area as construction crews are still on site!

Excellent News Everyone!

Southbound Interstate I-35 is back open to traffic. After nearly 5 months of construction, we are at the end. As of 2:30 this afternoon, MODOT Project A04 for I-35 has traffic on both sides of the Interstate.

While this is exciting news, the project is not fully complete. You will still see minor work being performed on the sides and the median of the highway. We will be removing the temporary pull-offs and the temporary crossovers, as well as various other portions of work alongside our partners. Please continue to be mindful of the construction area and be aware of possible lane closures both north and southbound while the project is closed out.

A big thanks to Michels Road and Stone for leading this project for the last two years. This project was originally bid in October of 2024 and started in the Spring of 2025. During this time, you have seen nearly 8 miles of Highway 69 repaved and widened, along with 16 miles of Interstate concrete removed, reprocessed, and poured.

We also want to thank all of the local agencies that have helped during this time. The Cameron Fire, Police, and Ambulance Departments, Lathrop Fire, Police, and Ambulance Departments, Tri-County EMS, Missouri Highway Patrol, Clinton County Sheriff's Department, the local Lathrop and Cameron MODOT Maintenance Barns, and all the other agencies we may be forgetting that have assisted this project over the last two years.

And to the general motoring public, thank you for your patience during this project. We hope you all enjoy the new road!

Clinton County Sheriff’s Office Identifies Subject in Gower Vehicle Pursuit and Explosion Incident

GOWER, MO - The Clinton County Sheriff’s Office has released the identity of the driver involved in the August 22 vehicle pursuit and subsequent vehicle explosion in Gower, Missouri, following notification of the next of kin.

The individual has been identified as Christopher Williams, 54, of Gower Missouri.

Incident Recap

On August 22, 2026, at approximately 11:37 AM, the Clinton County Sheriff’s Office 911 Center received a call regarding a potentially suicidal individual in Gower. Responding deputies met with the reporting party and were alerted that the subject had made threats of "su***de by cop" and was believed to be armed with a fi***rm and explosive devices.

At approximately 12:19 PM, deputies located the subject outside a residence near Gower. The subject, carrying a black backpack, refused commands from law enforcement and fled the scene in a vehicle, initiating a police pursuit. During the chase, the individual drove head-on toward deputies while displaying what appeared to be a suspected explosive device out the driver's window.

At 12:29 PM, the pursuit moved into an open field behind a local business off a restaurant driveway in Gower. At 12:31 PM, an explosion occurred inside the subject's vehicle. Shrapnel from the blast struck surrounding patrol cars. No law enforcement officers were injured.

Ongoing Investigation

The Kansas City, Missouri Police Department’s Bomb Squad was deployed and they cleared the vehicle where secondary explosive devices were discovered.

This remains an active, ongoing investigation led by the Clinton County Sheriff’s Office in coordination with multiple multi-jurisdictional partners, including:

On August 22, 2026, at approximately 11:37 AM, the Clinton County Sheriff’s Office 911 Center received a call reporting a possible suicidal subject in Gower, Missouri. Deputies were dispatched to the area and made contact with the reporting party.

Deputies were informed that the subject had made threats of “su***de by cop” and was armed with a fi***rm and explosive devices. At approximately 12:19 PM, additional information was received indicating a possible location of the subject at a residence just outside Gower.

Deputies arrived at the residence and located the subject, who was carrying a black backpack. The subject refused all commands and entered a vehicle, leaving the residence. Clinton County Deputies attempted to stop the individual, but a pursuit was initiated. During the pursuit, the individual drove head‑on toward the deputies and held what appeared to be a suspected explosive device outside the car window as he passed them.

At 12:29 PM, Deputies advised that they had entered the driveway of a local restaurant in Gower, Missouri, and were proceeding into an open field behind the business. At 12:31 PM, Deputies reported an explosion inside the subject’s vehicle and noted that shrapnel had struck their patrol vehicles. No deputies were injured.

A perimeter was established around the vehicle, and several nearby residences were cleared while members of the Kansas City, Missouri Police Department Bomb Squad responded to the scene and began working to clear the vehicle of any secondary explosive devices.

Members of the Clinton County Sheriff’s Office; Gower, Cameron, and St. Joseph Police Departments; Kansas City Police Bomb Squad; Buchanan County Sheriff’s Office; Missouri State Highway Patrol; Tri‑County Regional SWAT Team; and Missouri Department of Conservation are currently on scene and actively working together on this incident.

This is still a very active incident and as information becomes available we will update the public.

WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 545 PM CDT FOR NORTHEASTERN BUCHANAN...NORTHWESTERN CLINTON...SOUTHERN GENTRY... SOUTHEASTERN NODAWAY...ANDREW AND DEKALB COUNTIES

At 510 PM CDT, severe thunderstorms were located along a line
extending from 6 miles northwest of King City to Clarksdale to near
Agency, moving east at 35 mph.

HAZARD...60 mph wind gusts and quarter size hail.

SOURCE...Radar indicated.

IMPACT...Hail damage to vehicles is expected. Expect wind damage to
roofs, siding, and trees.

Locations impacted include...
St. Joseph, Savannah, Stanberry, Maysville, King City, Stewartsville,
Union Star, Osborn, Clarksdale, Easton, Bolckow, Rosendale, Cosby,
Darlington, Weatherby, Amity, Rea, Fairport, Ford City, and Helena.

This includes the following highways...
Interstate 29 between mile markers 42 and 51.
Interstate 229 between mile markers 0 and 2.

🚨🚧 TRAFFIC ALERT – CLINTON COUNTY ROUTE 116 🚧🚨

Motorists traveling through Plattsburg should plan for delays beginning Thursday, August 20.

MoDOT reports that Route 116 will be narrowed to one lane from Route Y to Route C while utility work is being completed by Havens Construction under a MoDOT permit.

📍 MO Route 116 – Route Y to Route C, Plattsburg

Please slow down, use caution, and be alert for workers and changing traffic conditions in the area. All work is weather permitting and schedules are subject to change.

🍕 A BIG Thank You to Simple Simon’s Pizza of Gower! 🍕

It just so happened that we had a huge group in the house tonight for a Patrol Meeting, and Simple Simon’s Pizza of Gower came through BIG for us!

They provided our office with some wonderful pizza and delicious dessert, helping feed not only our Patrol staff, but also our Detention Center and Communications Center crews.
