“Plattsburgh Man Arrested Following Violent Assault at Village Suites”

DATE OF RELEASE: May 15th, 2026
TIME OF RELEASE: FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PLATTSBURGH, NY – On the evening of May 14, 2026, at approximately 5:28 PM, the Plattsburgh Police Department responded to a report of a physical assault at the Village Suites complex, located at 5035 South Catherine Street. Upon arrival, officers discovered two male individuals requiring medical attention.

Officers secured the scene and isolated the two males, aged 27 and 28. Medical aid was immediately rendered, and both individuals were subsequently transported to University of Vermont Health Network – Champlain Valley Physicians Hospital (CVPH) for further assessment and treatment.

A preliminary investigation alleges that during a verbal dispute between roommates, Anderson D. Blash, 28, repeatedly stabbed the 27-year-old victim. The victim sustained critical injuries, including several lacerations as well as internal injury. Due to the severity of his condition, the victim was later transferred to the University of Vermont Medical Center in Burlington, Vermont, where he is currently in stable condition and continuing to receive care.

Anderson D. Blash was taken into custody and arraigned at the City of Plattsburgh Court this morning at 9:00 AM. Following his arraignment, Blash was remanded to the Clinton County Correctional Facility in lieu of $100,000 cash bail or a $1,000,000 insurance bond, as set by the court.

“Following this violent incident, the members of the Plattsburgh Police Department worked diligently to investigate all aspects of the assault. The rapid response of our officers, who provided immediate medical care and quickly transitioned to investigative modes, was crucial in discerning the facts of this case” says Chief Trombley. “I would like to extend our gratitude to the public for their assistance and thanks to the New York State Police (NYSP) and the Clinton County District Attorney’s Office for their collaboration throughout this investigation.”

Criminal charges:
Anderson D. Blash (28) of Plattsburgh, New York

Blash has been charged with one count of Assault in the First Degree (Class B Felony), involving the intent to cause serious physical injury by means of a dangerous weapon, and one count of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Fourth Degree (Class A Misdemeanor).

"Plattsburgh Police Department Launches Comprehensive Bike & e-Mobility Safety Initiative"

The Plattsburgh Police Department is pleased to announce the launch of its Bike Safety Program, a proactive initiative focused on enhancing safety for cyclists, pedestrians, and users of e-bikes and scooters across the North Country.

Building on the success of the regional training hosted by the Plattsburgh Police Department last fall and following a comprehensive refresher course completed by all department members in April, this program showcases the department's continued commitment to traffic safety and community-oriented policing.

The Plattsburgh Police Department is proud to lead this initiative and invites regional law enforcement agencies to participate and adopt key components.

"As warmer weather increases the presence of cyclists, e-bikes, and scooters, we are dedicated to promoting safe and sustainable transportation while ensuring all road users can share our roads safely," said Chief Jarrod Trombley. "This initiative is a Plattsburgh Police Department endeavor. Our officers have undergone the latest training, and we look forward to collaborating with neighboring agencies and engaging our community through education, outreach, and practical safety measures."

The multifaceted program comprises:

* School-based education for youth: Equip children and teens with essential safety knowledge to prevent accidents and encourage lifelong safe habits.

* Enhanced officer enforcement capabilities: Ensure law enforcement personnel are fully versed in current laws related to bicycles, e-bikes, scooters, and pedestrians for effective enforcement and community guidance.

* Public forums: Engage residents through interactive forums with point-of-sale safety resources at local retailers: Strengthen retail partnerships to promote safety through point-of-sale education. (June & September dates TBD)

* Court-based educational interventions for violators: Leverage the court system to provide educational interventions for violators, turning enforcement into opportunities for learning.

The objective is clear: reduce traffic-related injuries and fatalities involving these modes of transportation while promoting responsible riding and active community life.

"Public safety is a shared responsibility," Chief Trombley emphasized. "We look forward to working alongside residents, businesses, schools, and regional partners to promote knowledge, compliance with New York Vehicle and Traffic Law, and a culture of mutual respect on our roadways."

For more information, please contact the Plattsburgh Police Department. We remain open to opportunities for expanded partnership and collaboration.

Autism Awareness & Community Support

Our department is proud to support Autism Awareness and the upcoming Autism Walk on May 2, 2026.

We are continually working to improve how we serve all members of our community, including those with cognitive differences.

It is with great excitement to announce that the Plattsburgh police department has been awarded a grant through the Autism Alliance of Northeastern New York. This award is reflecting our strong partnership with local organizations dedicated to supporting the autism community. With these funds, which the Plattsburgh police department intends to match, will provide the following;
New Patrol Resources
To better serve individuals with autism and other sensory sensitivities, our each and every patrol units are now equipped with:
• Sensory Support (PEC) Systems to help officers calm and assist individuals experiencing sensory overload or distress.
• Autism “Go Packs”, which provide officers with tools and resources that can help when assisting individuals with cognitive differences. These go packs were created and purchased from helping heroes. A special thank you to Tommy who is a young man who creates the blue go packs and is ever willing to share and help first responders with understanding and helping them assist others with similar needs!! Thank you Tommy! https://www.facebook.com/heroeshelpingthosewithspecialneeds

We look forward to standing with our community at the Autism Walk on May 2nd and continuing to build partnerships that support safety, understanding, and inclusion.

These latest initiatives are in addition to our blue envelope program. For more information about the Blue Envelope Program or autism resources available through our department, please contact us or stop by the station.
