🚧 Traffic Update – S. 18th St. 🚧
Starting this afternoon, after school is out of session, construction crews will begin closing the northbound lane of traffic by the water tower on S. 18th St.
City officials have worked closely with the construction company to develop a solution that will maintain normal traffic flow through the area. A temporary roadway was created for southbound traffic, allowing both lanes of traffic to remain open throughout the project.
Cones and signage will be in place to guide motorists through the area. We continue to recommend using alternate routes when possible. If you do need to travel through the construction area, please slow down and use extra caution to help keep construction crews and motorists safe.
🚶 Pedestrian Traffic:
The sidewalk near the water tower will be closed. Pedestrians will be diverted through the middle school, Memorial Park, and along 4th Ave.
Thank you for your patience and cooperation as this project moves forward!

We understand there was quite a bit of congestion and frustration around the elementary school during student pick-up this afternoon. Please rest assured that we are working on plans to address these issues as the construction project progresses.

In the meantime, we ask that you please do not call our 911 center with complaints about traffic. Our dispatchers are working hard to manage a variety of calls and emergencies throughout the county. Calling 911 to report traffic concerns can divert their attention from other situations that may require immediate assistance.

As mentioned in a previous post, we strongly encourage parents to utilize Lower Memorial Park, accessed from 4th Avenue, for student drop-off and pick-up. The paved pathway provides a convenient way to get to the elementary school while avoiding the congestion in the immediate area. Using this option would also help reduce the amount of traffic around the school.

We appreciate everyone’s patience and cooperation as we work through these challenges during the construction project.

🚧 Traffic Reminder for S. 18th St.
A reminder that beginning Wednesday, August 12th, S. 18th St. near the water tower will be reduced to one lane while crews complete work in the area.
With the school year beginning, we anticipate increased traffic before and after school. To help reduce congestion, we encourage elementary school parents to consider using Lower Memorial Park, accessible from 4th Ave., as a drop-off and pick-up location.
If you’re unfamiliar with the area, there is a fully paved pathway from the park to the school, and school staff will be available to help ensure students get where they need to go safely. Please note that this pathway does not connect directly to St. John’s.
If you do travel through the S. 18th St. area, please use caution, be patient, and watch for children and families walking in the area.
Thank you for your patience and cooperation as we work through this project and help keep our students safe! 🚸

TRAFFIC NOTICE!
Beginning Wednesday, August 12, a section of S. 18th Street near the water tower will be reduced to one lane while crews complete a construction project. Temporary traffic signals will be in place to help manage traffic, and temporary crosswalks will be established as a portion of the sidewalk will be closed.
We understand this work coincides with the first day of school, so we encourage motorists to plan ahead, use alternate routes if possible, and expect delays. Please slow down, follow the temporary traffic control devices, and remain alert for construction workers and pedestrians as they navigate the area safely.

Last November, Officer Baumgart began his law enforcement journey with the Plattsmouth Police Department. After completing more than 80 hours of pre-academy training, 16 weeks at the Nebraska Law Enforcement Training Center, and 14 weeks of field training, he worked his first solo shift last night.
Congratulations to Officer Baumgart on reaching this important milestone. We're proud of all the hard work and dedication he's shown throughout the process, and we look forward to watching him continue to serve our community.
If you've ever considered a career in law enforcement and want the opportunity to make a difference in your community, we'll be hosting a hiring event in the near future. Keep an eye on our page for more details coming soon!

And here it is! đźš”
Thanks to so many of you who took the time to vote for us last winter and spring, we were fortunate enough to receive a free graphics wrap from our friends at Revolution Wraps!
They gave us the opportunity to give our School Resource Officer cruiser a much-needed update, and we’re excited to finally introduce the finished product. We think it turned out great, and we hope you all feel the same way!
Keep an eye out for the cruiser at school events and activities throughout the year. PPD SRO Mike McKnelly would be more than happy to show it off!
A huge THANK YOU to Revolution Wraps—not only for this incredible opportunity, but also for the professionalism, creativity, and attention to detail they brought to the project. You all did an amazing job!
We’re proud to have this cruiser representing the Plattsmouth Police Department and our partnership with Plattsmouth Community Schools. 👮‍♂️🏫
