Read more about the REP Leaders below:
· William Goodwin – I am a single parent in Contra Costa County. It took 7 years after I was disabled to find affordable housing for me and my daughter. I was number 2,398 on the list when I was housed, but now the list in 5,000+. It has doubled! When I look at this data I am hit by the realization that something has gone very wrong within our housing system of care.
· Irma Bodden- When I first applied for my section-8 housing voucher I waited only three months to receive it . It wasn’t hard to find housing at first, but in the early 2000 everything changed. Now landlords won’t even consider working with a section-8 resident because of the heinous and over generalizations idea that the public has been taught to think about the risk of housing voucher holders.
· Lori Goss – I have a chronic health condition but it still took 6 years to find housing when my medical costs caused me to not be able to pay rent. I even had to leave my home state of California to look for affordable housing in Nevada. However, since being housing my health has improved immensely ! I no longer have to take the strong medications I was prescribed for my illness and the future for both me and my children is brighter now.
