Thank you Chief for your service to our state. As a dedicated member of our Board of Directors, you have made a lasting impact on our organization and critical mission. Together. Helping Iowans!

It's official. Chief Greg Smith will retire from the Cedar Rapids Fire Department at the end of June. After 32 years of service to the City of Cedar Rapids, it's time for a new adventure.

Chief Greg Smith started at CRFD in 1994 and has been the Fire Chief since 2019. We'll sit down with him for a longer interview and walk down memory lane as we get closer to his final days with us. For now, he's still working hard to lead our department, advocate for firefighters, and giving his all to the performance of his duties.

We will host a public goodbye open house in June for Chief Smith.

A nationwide search will start very soon for the next Chief of the Cedar Rapids Fire Department. We'll keep you updated on that process.
