From Thursday, June 4th - Monday, June 29th, the play areas located at Carol Beach Park and Becker Park will be temporarily shut down. This is due to upgraded surfacing being installed under the existing play structures.

These upgrades will provide a long-lasting, more consistent safety surface under (and around) the play equipment. Also, these upgrades will reduce the long-term costs of annual maintenance.

Soft Surfacing Process
• Safety fencing and signage will be put up around the affected play equipment
• Existing certified wood fiber chips will be removed
• Site elevation grades will be established around the play area and new containment concrete curbs will be installed around the play structure
• New concrete curbing will need to cure for a few days
• Once the new curbing has properly cured, a new soft surfacing material will be poured into place around the existing play structure
• The new surfacing takes 24 hours to cure and the area is secured during that time
• Once the soft surfacing is completed, the rest of the site restoration will get underway
• Upon completion of the site restoration removal of the safety fencing, the playground will be available for play
• Swing set areas will remain with the current certified wood fiber surfacing
