Pleasantville Police Department - IA The Pleasantville Police Department is committed to the safety and well-being of our citizens. Pleasantville is home to nearly 1,700 people.

There are 3 full-time Police Officers and 3 part-time Police Officers. The purpose of this page is to allow citizens easy access to our office in the event they have questions, comments, or concerns. In the event of an emergency, please call 911.

Shortly after 3:30pm, Pleasantville Police and Pleasantville Rescue were dispatched to an unfortunate accident on Victory Lane. One subject was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries.

This is once again another reminder to operate all motor vehicles in a safe and responsible manner.

🚨 BICYCLE & E-BIKE SAFETY REMINDER 🚨

The Pleasantville Police Department has received an increased number of complaints regarding the unsafe operation of bicycles, e-bikes, and e-scooters within our community. We want to remind everyone of the laws and safety requirements designed to keep riders and pedestrians safe.

⚠️STOP signs are NOT optional. Bicyclists are required to obey all traffic laws on public roadways, including stop signs and traffic signals. Violations may result in citations and civil penalties.

Key Bicycle Regulations:

✅Ride at a reasonable and prudent speed for conditions.
✅ Yield to pedestrians when riding on sidewalks and provide an audible signal before passing.
✅ Do not ride in a reckless manner, including zigzagging, stunting, speeding, or operating in a way that endangers yourself or others.
✅ Nighttime riding requires:
• A white front light visible from at least 300 feet.
• A red rear light or approved reflector visible from up to 300 feet.
✅ All bicycles must have working brakes capable of stopping the bicycle safely.

Bicycle Impoundment Penalty (Pleasantville City Code 78.13)
In lieu of a scheduled fine, a bicycle may be impounded:
• 5 days for a first offense
• 10 days for a second offense
• 30 days for a third offense
⚡ E-Bike Rules in Iowa
A legal e-bike must:
• Have operable pedals and a seat/saddle
• Have a motor rated at 750 watts or less
• Meet state and manufacturer labeling requirements
E-Bike Classes:
🔹 Class 1 – Pedal assist only, up to 20 mph
🔹 Class 2 – Throttle and/or pedal assist, up to 20 mph
🔹 Class 3 – Pedal assist only, up to 28 mph
➡️ Riders must be at least 16 years old to operate a Class 3 e-bike.

Additional Information:
• No driver's license, registration, or insurance is required.
• Helmets are not required by state law but are strongly encouraged.
• E-bikes may generally be operated anywhere traditional bicycles are allowed, subject to local regulations.

Our goal is education and safety. Parents, please take time to discuss these rules with your children. Riders of all ages are encouraged to operate responsibly and courteously so everyone can enjoy our streets, sidewalks, and trails safely.
