Wildfire smoke is impacting air quality across the Coeur d'Alene Reservation today, August 7, 2026, at 8:30 am. Current AQI readings are in the unhealthy range & our Air Quality Advisory/Burn Ban is still in place:
What does this mean:
General Public:
• Limit prolonged or heavy outdoor exertion (avoid long periods of activity like yard work, sports practice, or extended time outside)
• Take more breaks during outdoor activities
• Watch for symptoms: coughing, throat or eye irritation, shortness of breath, unusual fatigue
• If you experience symptoms, move indoors and reduce activity level
• Keep windows and doors closed; run AC or an air purifier on recirculate if available
• Consider rescheduling outdoor events, sports practices, or strenuous outdoor work to another day if possible
• Wear a properly fitted N95 mask if you must be outside for extended periods
Sensitive groups at red level should avoid prolonged or heavy outdoor exertion altogether, not just limit it.
Protective steps you can take:
• Keep windows and doors closed when possible
• Run air conditioning or an air purifier on recirculate mode, if available
• Limit strenuous outdoor activity, especially during peak smoke hours
• Free N95 masks are available at the Natural Resource front desk for anyone who needs one
• Don't have an air purifier? Instructions for building a low-cost DIY box fan filter are available; reach out, and we'll walk you through it.
Check AQI throughout the day:
Smoke conditions can change quickly depending on wind and fire activity. Please check air quality levels periodically, not just this morning, before heading outside, sending kids out to play, or planning outdoor work or activities. Real-time readings are available anytime at Fire.AirNow.gov, map.purpleair.com, or at the Coeur d’Alene Tribe’s Air Quality page.
I will be monitoring conditions closely. If AQI worsens today, we will send an updated alert.
Stay safe and take care of yourselves and your neighbors.
