MARSHALL COUNTY TO BEGIN REGULAR TESTING OF OUTDOOR WARNING SIRENS:

Marshall County will conduct weekly testing on its outdoor warning siren system beginning on Tuesday, June 2nd.

The Marshall County Sheriff’s Department Dispatch Center will automatically activate its sirens every Tuesday at 11 AM for 30 seconds.

Dispatch controls sirens for Bourbon, Center, and Union Townships. These are the sirens that will be activated during the weekly tests. Other sirens across the county are controlled by their respective fire departments and have their own testing procedures.

If severe weather is forecasted on the day of a test, or if it is actively raining at 11 AM, the test will be cancelled to avoid “false alarms”. If a test is cancelled, a post will be made on this page notifying the public.

UPCOMING US 30 LANE CLOSURES:

LaPorte Construction Company will conduct bridge work on U.S. 30 between Oak Road and Plymouth-Goshen Road beginning on or after Tuesday, May 26.

During construction, U.S. 30 will be reduced to one lane in each direction. Phase one will have westbound U.S. 30 closed for construction, and the eastbound lanes will be converted to two-way traffic. The ramp from State Road 17 to U.S. 30 westbound will be closed, and the detour will follow U.S. 30 eastbound to the U.S. 31 interchange to turn around.

Phase one will be ongoing through late August. Phase two is expected to begin in mid-September for the eastbound lanes, with construction activities continuing through late November. Bridge deck overlays will be conducted at Western Ave and Baker Ditch.

As part of this project, Western Ave is closed between Skylane Dr and Pilgrim Ln under U.S. 30 for bridge beam repairs through mid-June.

INDOT encourages drivers to allow extra time when traveling through this area and follow traffic directions carefully. Motorists should slow down, exercise caution and drive distraction-free through all work zones.

The Storm Prediction Center has dropped Marshall County to a "Marginal Risk" (level 1/5) for severe storms today.

New forecast guidance shows the threat shifting east, but we are not out of the woods! 60 mph wind gusts and heavy rain still appear possible in the early stages of these storms.

Late afternoon and early evening (~ 3-7 PM) will be the most likely time of storm arrival locally, though some weaker storms may impact the area prior to that window.

Non-thunderstorm wind gusts up to 30 mph are in the forecast this morning and early afternoon, along with heat indices in the mid- to upper-80s.

Any warnings will be posted to this page and the Marshall County App. Stay weather aware!
