Subject: Celebrating the Completion of Expanded Emergency Department – Phase 1
Dear BID Plymouth Colleagues,
I am pleased to share exciting news about a significant milestone for BID Plymouth. Today, we celebrate the completion and opening of the first phase of our Emergency Department (ED) expansion project, including new patient exam rooms and a newly renovated main lobby. This achievement represents an important step forward in one of the most transformational investments in our hospital’s history.
This project is about much more than expanding our physical space. It is an investment in the future of health care in communities across the South Shore and ensuring our community continues to have access to timely, high-quality emergency care close to home. Advancing care in the community is central to BID Plymouth’s mission and aligns closely with BILH’s Blueprint 2030 goal of delivering 70 percent of care in the community.
This milestone is also an opportunity to recognize the extraordinary efforts of our teams and express our gratitude to the many supporters who have helped make this project possible. Thanks to the remarkable generosity of our community, we have exceeded our $10 million fundraising goal in support of this expansion, as part of BID Plymouth’s Growing Stronger Together fundraising campaign.
This achievement reflects the trust and confidence that our patients, donors, and neighbors place in BID Plymouth and the exceptional care our caregivers provide every day.
Our ED currently serves 46,000 patients each year, which is well beyond the capacity for which it was originally designed. When the project is completed in 2028, the expanded ED will more than double its current footprint, increasing annual capacity to 65,000 visits. The expansion will also significantly strengthen our ability to care for patients experiencing behavioral health crises.
The completed facility will feature larger private exam rooms designed to better accommodate patients and families, advanced clinical equipment and monitoring technology, and a more efficient layout that helps reduce wait times and improve patient flow. Together, these enhancements will improve safety, comfort, efficiency, and the overall care experience for patients and families.
I want to extend my sincere thanks to the physicians, nurses, advanced practice providers, support staff, facilities teams, project partners, and leaders who have made this possible while continuing to deliver outstanding care throughout construction. Your commitment and professionalism have been instrumental to our success.
While important work remains before the project is fully completed in 2028, the opening of this first phase is a meaningful accomplishment and an exciting glimpse into the future of emergency care at BID Plymouth. We look forward to sharing continued progress and celebrating additional milestones in the years ahead.
