The Fire Department welcomed two new full-time firefighters, John Lonsbury and Jacob Wheeler, who were sworn in this morning. The department is transitioning to a service model that includes more full-time members to bolster paid-on-call firefighters and to staff a Plymouth fire station 24/7.

He built an excellent relationship with the members of PC&FPF over many years as our Plymouth Police Liaison Member! We will surely miss him!

Even as a child, Curtis Smith knew he wanted to become a police officer. Today he will retire after almost three decades with the Plymouth Police Department.

Smith began his career with the New Ulm Police Department, but accepted a patrol position with Plymouth in 1990. His desire to learn and keep active led him to a variety of roles. He was Wayzata High School's first school resource officer, a field training officer, defensive tactics instructor, detective and member of the SWAT team before being promoted to sergeant in 2000.

Thank you for your service, Sgt. Smith โ€“ and all you have done to build strong relationships in the community.

We were privileged to present two scholarships yesterday from the Corky Ornburg Scholarship Fund, which was most recently funded by Corky's wife, Margaret, and son, Jeffrey. Corky was a founding member of PC&FPF, and served as Treasurer for 40 years until his passing on January 25, 2018. He was recognized with the "Public Safety Legacy Award" by Public Safety Director, Mike Goldstein, in 2017.

Margaret was able to come to the presentation, and was able to meet the first two recipients since their donation!

One of our Plymouth Police Reserves members, Karleigh Johnson, received another scholarship for her pursuit of a Criminal Justice Degree at St. Cloud State University.

The other recipient is one of our Plymouth Firefighters, Jamel S. Anderson. He is seeking his B.S. Degree in Fire & Emergency Services Administration through Colorado State University online!

Congratulations Karleigh and Jamel!

Plymouth Police responded to a call at a Plymouth home this morning, only to discover that a baby had been just born โ€“ in the driveway.

Officers Lindberg and Thomas found dad, Antonio, kneeling in the snow with newborn baby Jayden. Officers helped wrap Jayden in a blanket to keep him warm until the ambulance arrived and assisted paramedics in helping mom, Annabel.

Plymouth Police: Drivers, now that the school year has started, please be cautious around buses and obey school bus stop arm laws.

Minnesota law requires drivers to stop at least 20 feet from a school bus that is displaying its flashing red lights and stop arm. Motorists traveling in the same direction as the bus must stop and remain stopped until the stop sign and lights are deactivated. Motorists approaching the bus from the opposite direction must stop if there is no physical barrier, such as a median.

It's your responsibility to know and obey school bus stop arm laws. Here's a diagram that may help, courtesy of the Montgomery County Police Department.

The Plymouth Police Department celebrated two officer promotions with a badge-pinning ceremony today. Scott Whiteford was promoted to sergeant and Erik Fadden was promoted to deputy chief.

Both Whiteford and Fadden are considered hometown guys. Whiteford, a graduate of Robbinsdale Armstrong High School, first showed his interest in law enforcement as a member of the Plymouth Police Explorers. Fadden, a Wayzata High School alum, got his start as a police reserve volunteer with Plymouth.
