We salute the Plymouth Firefighters and their thermal imaging camera to save the day! Great work!

Big or small, those in need can count on the Plymouth Fire Department for help. Last night, firefighters were called to a home in Plymouth with a small puppy in a predicament – he had become trapped in the walls of a home.

The puppy found a small access and decided to start exploring. The homeowners heard him in the ceiling space between the first and second floors, and called the Fire Department.

Finding it difficult to pinpoint the dog's location, one firefighter suggested utilizing the thermal imaging camera. The puppy put out enough heat to be seen, and firefighters were able to create an opening and rescue the rambunctious little guy uninjured.

According to a Plymouth battalion chief, "Thermal imaging combined with good old-fashioned, use-all-your-senses firefighting work helped to minimize the damage and rescue the puppy. Good work, crew!"

As the weather is still cold and people are using their space heaters, we just wanted to remind you that you should NEVER plug a heater into a power strip. These units are not designed to handle the high current flow needed for a space heater and can overheat, or even catch fire, due to the added energy flow.

Please share and stay safe this Winter season!

The Electrical Safety Foundation International says heating equipment is the second leading cause of home fires in the U.S. with more than 65,000 fires being attributed to them each year. The ESFI reports the fire result in hundreds of deaths, thousands of injuries and millions of dollars in property damage.

With the snow storm coming Friday afternoon, and the fact that most fires occur during the winter months, here's a friendly reminder to Plymouth residents and businesses to please adopt their local fire hydrant. Clearing a three foot radius around the plug allows the firefighters quick access to water should the need arise. To learn more, check out the following website. http://www.plymouthmn.gov/…/family-safety-p…/adopt-a-hydrant

When the snow flies, you can help keep your neighborhood safe. The Plymouth Fire Department is asking residents to adopt a hydrant and shovel a 3-foot radius around it after a snowfall. http://bit.ly/2ipUt7f

Rest In Peace Odie. Thank you for your service. We send our condolences to the Dane Family, and The Plymouth Police Department Family.

It is with a heavy heart and great respect that we announce the retirement of K9 Odie from the Plymouth Police Department. Odie had suffered ongoing health issues during the past year and was laid to rest at Northwest Animal Hospital on Jan. 2.

Odie served Plymouth with Officer Bill Dane since 2011. The team earned many awards and achieved certifications for tracking, narcotics detection, apprehension, obedience and more. Odie was also a friendly face at K9 demonstrations in the community and met thousands of 2nd grade students who toured City Hall throughout the years.

Thank you to the officers and K9 handlers from the area who joined Plymouth in saying goodbye to Odie. We send our condolences to the Dane family, which lost a beloved member of its household.

We’d like to share our deep appreciation for the years of service Odie gave to the city – he has made the Plymouth Police Department proud.

Plymouth Public Safety helping to make the Holidays happy!

The Plymouth Police and Fire departments helped make seasons bright at Presents with Public Safety this morning.

The program paired police officers and firefighters with local children to shop for holiday gifts at Target Store Plymouth. 🎁❄🎄

Presents with Public Safety is made possible through generous donations from the Rotary Club of Plymouth and the Plymouth, MN Lions Club. Big thanks also go to the volunteers who wrapped up all the holiday goodies.

We were privileged to present a scholarship yesterday to one of our Plymouth Police Explorers. Annika Tarnanen met all of the criteria to qualify for her scholarship, and she will be seeking her degree in Criminal Justice from St. Cloud State University,

Funds for scholarships come from the Corky Ornburg Scholarship Fund, which was most recently funded by Corky’s wife, Margaret, and son, Jeffrey, in his memory. Corky was a founding member of PC&FPF, and served as Treasurer for 40 years until his passing on January 25, 2018. He was recognized with the “Public Safety Legacy Award” by Public Safety Director, Mike Goldstein, in 2017.

Congratulations Annika!!

⚠️ Message from Plymouth Police: As the school year kicks in, the department's traffic unit will increasingly monitor crosswalks and intersections to encourage safe crossings.

➡️➡️➡️ Crosswalk safety requires motorists and pedestrians to cooperate – and motorists and pedestrians should make eye contact with each other. 👀 Pedestrians should wear brightly colored clothing, especially at night. 🚸⚠️

More safety guidelines from Minnesota Department of Transportation:

**Pedestrians**
• Make eye contact with drivers and ensure they see you and will stop
• Clearly show your intentions to cross
• Look across all lanes for moving vehicles before proceeding
• Wear brightly colored clothing and reflective material
• Cross streets at marked crosswalks or intersections – don’t cross mid-block

**Motorists**
• Stop for crossing pedestrians at every intersection, even those without crosswalks or stop lights
• Leave lots of room between you and the pedestrian when stopping
• Scan the road and sides of the road ahead for pedestrians
• Stop for pedestrians, even when they are in the wrong or crossing mid-block
• Never pass or drive around a vehicle that is stopped for pedestrians

We were privileged to present scholarships yesterday to two of our Plymouth Firefighters, from the Corky Ornburg Scholarship Fund, which was most recently funded by Corky’s wife, Margaret, and son, Jeffrey, in his memory. Corky was a founding member of PC&FPF, and served as Treasurer for 40 years until his passing on January 25, 2018. He was recognized with the “Public Safety Legacy Award” by Public Safety Director, Mike Goldstein, in 2017.

Adam Kragthorpe and Jeremiah Steele, met all of the criteria to qualify for their scholarships, and they are pursuing their Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Certifications. With these skills, they will be able to provide on the scene, immediate medical care to patients in emergency situations, which will be a tremendous asset to our city! Congratulations Adam & Jeremiah!

Hi Plymouth Crime and Fire Prevention Fund, My name is Sydney and I work for the Minnesota Wild, and we are hosting a night for Minnesota's Hometown Heroes, where we honor Minnesota's Police Officers, First Responders, and Firefighters for an exclusive price at the Wild Game! I have a link where heroes and their families can sign up, is there any way you can post it on your page or send it out to the department and let the heroes know that we want to celebrate them?
