The Bridge House Homeless Shelter, located in Plymouth, NH, originally opened in 1989, licensed to serve eight people. In 2005 it reopened on the grounds of Whole Village Family Resource Center (WVFRC), in a new “green” building licensed for 20 beds and often serving 30. The Bridge House provides food and shelter and all essential services that will lead participants to permanent housing solutions
. The services available on site are Head Start, 12-step programs, GED, Literacy Task Force, tutoring, parenting classes, drug and alcohol Counseling, NH Employment Security Representative, More Than Wheels car acquisition, and budgeting classes. Within walking distance is Lakes Region Mental Health, Mid-State Health Center, Speare Memorial Hospital, Plymouth Elementary and the Regional High School. Almost all essential services, including medical/mental health, substance abuse, nutritional, and employment counseling, SSI, TANF and food-stamp acquisition are available on the WVFRC campus, Bridge House’s location. The Bridge House has the unique commitment to homeless veterans who are never turned away, no matter how full. Veterans are connected immediately to services through a VA social worker and a VA employment advocate who meet with the Veterans once a week on-site.
