Plymouth County Extension is continuing our FREE shoe sprays for tick bite prevention.

From August until October, we are offering to treat your shoes with permethrin, a highly effective compound proven to guard against ticks.

Each treatment is good for up to 6 weeks, so feel free to come each month.
Come with an extra pair of shoes. We will walk you through the process and show you how it's done.

Feel free to stop by our office on the 1st Tuesday or 1st Thursday* of each month:
August 4+6
September 1+3
October 1+6

*Note: There's been a slight change to the days we are offering per week. Instead of Monday and Tuesday, we are offering it on Tuesday and Thursday.

Had a blast with Sustainable Plymouth on Sunday. Lots of great stuff to see at Mass Audubon's Tidmarsh Wildlife Sanctuary.

Milkweed was in bloom with lots of pollinators. Lots of monarchs, skippers, and bumble bees (and, of course, the ubiquitous non-native honey bee). Plus, some really fun aquatic invertebrates.

If you haven't been to Tidmarsh lately, it's a great time to go.

A little late, but new upcoming programs for July.

Lots of programming on ticks and pollinators. Fireflies talks are still happening with 1 more walk coming up.

Several kids programs, as well that I've marked with a *. Children are always welcome at my events, but these will be specificially geared towards them.

Shoe spray reminder!

This Monday (June 1) and Thursday (June 4), we are treating shoes with permethrin for FREE.

Treated clothing and shoes will protect you for up to 6 weeks or 6 washings. That means if you treat your shoes now, they will be protective until mid-July!

Just come from 9-12 noon with an extra pair of shoes and we'll spray them for you with permethrin, a compound proven to protect against ticks.

This week I was out collecting ticks as part of my surveillance work. You can see in the vial that there were several nymphs. I wasn't worried about being bit. And I didn't have a single tick on my body.

(The grass is in there to keep them from drying out. They die quite easily without the right level of humidity.)
