This Wednesday, June 3, at the Plymouth Library: Author David Hakensen will present about "Her Place in the Woods: The Life of Helen Hoover," a 2026 Minnesota Book Awards finalist. Register at https://hclib.bibliocommons.com/events/69d15ea366c3387a9d05cdb4

"Her Place in the Woods" is the first complete biography of Helen Hoover (1910-1984), whose beloved writings on life in the wilderness of northern Minnesota's Gunflint Lake were published in popular magazines and several bestselling books. Hakensen shares her unlikely history of leaving a corporate career in Chicago for a small cabin without electricity or running water, detailing the challenges she and her husband faced as they settled into the rhythms of their remote homestead. Hakensen served as president of the Minnesota Historical Society from 2017-2023. Books will be available for purchase and signing.

OUR THIRD-LARGEST SALE ON RECORD! Thanks to everyone who joined us at the Plymouth Library on Saturday to shop our sale and raise $9,783 for the Friends of the Hennepin County Library and Hennepin County Library's Outreach & Engagement programs. The $31,909 raised in 2026 so far gets us 44% of the way to our $72,000 fundraising goal for the year!
