PLYMPTON POLICE DEPARTMENT K9 AGGIE TO RECEIVE DONATED PROTECTIVE BODY ARMOR.
Plympton Police Department K9 Aggie will receive a bullet and stab protective vest through a charitable donation from the non-profit organization Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. The vest was sponsored by Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. and will be embroidered with the sentiment, “This gift of protection provided by Vested Interest in K9s, Inc.” Delivery is expected within ten weeks.
Vested Interest in K9s, Inc., established in 2009, is a 501(c)(3) charity whose mission is to provide bullet and stab protective vests and other assistance to law enforcement and related agency K9s throughout the United States. The U.S.-made, custom-fitted body armor is National Institute of Justice (NIJ) certified and is designed to provide potentially lifesaving protection for working K9 officers. Since its inception, the organization has provided more than 6,603 vests valued at $6.9 million to K9s in all 50 states through private and corporate donations.
The program is open to U.S. law enforcement and related agency K9s that are at least 20 months old and actively employed and certified. K9s with expired vests are also eligible to participate. There are an estimated 30,000 law enforcement K9s serving throughout the United States.
Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. accepts tax-deductible donations in any amount. A contribution of $1,050 sponsors one vest, which has an average value of $1,800, weighs approximately 4–5 pounds, and includes a five-year warranty.
