Job well done!

Yesterday at 1:41 PM, the Pocomoke City Vol. Fire Co., along with mutual aid companies, were alerted for a residential structure fire with a reported victim trapped on the second floor. Pocomoke City Emergency Medical Services arrived first and found a 2-story house with smoke showing from one side. A Pocomoke City Police Officer, EMS Clinician, and Volunteer Firefighter were able to rescue the occupant prior to the fire department’s arrival. Due to the circumstances, the EMS crew requested aviation to transport the patient. The crew from Engine 102 quickly extinguished the fire. The crew from Tower 1 searched the residence and found no other occupants. Chief E. Denston had command of the structure fire.

Simultaneously, a landing zone for aviation was established at Newtowne Park. Rescue 2 responded to assist with the landing zone along with Utility 181, Command 1-2, and fire police units. Groton Rd. was briefly closed while the helicopter landed and was on the ground. Maryland State Police Trooper 4 transported one patient to Johns Hopkins Bayview Burn Center. Lt. T. Cowger had command of the landing zone.

Due to the criminal investigation, please contact the Worcester County Fire Marshal’s Office with any additional questions.

I would like to acknowledge the exceptional hard work and dedication of Pocomoke City's Fire, EMS, and Police departments over the past few days in preparation for and during the storm. The snow and ice presented considerable challenges in the performance of our jobs, but we could not have performed our duties effectively without the crucial support of Public Works.
Public Works worked tirelessly to clear the roads by spreading salt and plowing, and also initiated trash collection despite delays caused by the storm. Additionally, they scheduled a second pickup time tonight to ensure that all trash was collected. While it is their duty, the conditions were extremely difficult with freezing temperatures and ice present.

Public works will continue their normal
routes for trash collection tomorrow and Friday.

Well done, Public Works - lunch is on us
tomorrow.

Thank you!!
