Every second counts during a cardiac emergency. During CPR Week 2026, the Tobyhanna Township Volunteer Fire Company encourages everyone to learn the basics of CPR and become prepared to help save a life.

When a person suffers a sudden cardiac arrest, immediate action can double or even triple their chances of survival. Even if you have never received formal CPR training, taking action is often better than doing nothing.

For individuals with no CPR experience:
1. Ensure the scene is safe.
2. Check if the person is responsive by tapping their shoulders and shouting.
3. Call 911 immediately or direct someone nearby to call.
4. If the person is not breathing normally, begin hands-only CPR.
5. Place the heel of one hand in the center of the chest and place your other hand on top.
6. Push hard and fast at a rate of 100โ€“120 compressions per minute, with a ratio of 30 compressions and 2 breaths for adults and 15 compressions and 2 breaths for a child if two rescuers are present, allowing the chest to fully recoil after each compression.
7. Continue chest compressions until emergency responders arrive or an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) becomes available.
8. If an AED is available, turn it on and follow the voice prompts.

Learn CPR. Be Prepared. Save Lives. โ™ฅ๏ธ๐Ÿš‘
