Hello Community,
As you may already know, our region is expecting the first major winter storm of the season to hit tonight. Mendocino County is expected to receive 5 to 9 inches of rain Tuesday November 19 through Thursday November 21, with more rain likely later on. The county is under a flood watch from 4 am Wednesday to 4 am Friday.
When our office is open, Action Network offers community members the ability to charge their devices during a power outage using our external generator. However, if we are closed, please refer to other local resources:
The Coast Community Library plans to stay open as long as there is sunlight, with or without power. Restrooms and a landline available.
Mendonoma Health Alliance will be open and providing services with limited staffing. MHA’s main office line is 707-412-3176 x 102.
Contact Redwood Coast Medical Services' Disaster Coordinator Chris Behrens at [email protected] or contact RCMS at 707-884-4005.
The Hubs & Routes Project (hubsandroutes.net) provides tools such as downloadable maps of Mendocino County areas and evacuation routes.
Some important storm safety tips:
- Strong winds (up to 50 mph) are expected, so try to secure any outdoor items.
- Charge your phone and any power banks you might have before a power outage.
- Avoid traveling if possible. If you need to travel, check road conditions & forecasts before you go and pack a small emergency bag with blankets, water, and snacks to take in the car. Don’t drive through floodwaters - remember “turn around, don’t drown”.
- If you have a generator, make sure you have enough fuel. Never use a generator indoors - not even in a partially enclosed space like a garage.
- If you are in a low-lying area or near a river, keep an eye on flood warnings and figure out an evacuation route ahead of time.
- Pack a go bag with copies of ID and insurance cards, cash, local maps, medications, phone charger/backup battery, flashlight, & first aid kit.
- Stay up to date by signing up for emergency alerts like MendoAlert & Nixle.
If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to our Community Resilience Advocate Annalisse Eclipse at [email protected].
Stay safe and warm everyone!
