Today at 4:09pm Barneveld FD was notified of a water rescue on the Cincinnati Creek off State Route 28 in the Town of Trenton with the possibility of two victims in the water, at the time of dispatch Barneveld Car 1 requested that Holland Patent FD be notified for their water rescue personnel as we operate as a joint water rescue team. Barneveld Car 1 arrived on scene and setup a command post on the bridge and confirmed 1 victim still in the water approximately 75 yards off the roadway at the base of a low head dam, while the second victim was able to climb out of the water, two good samaritans were able to reach the victim with a large branch and pull him to shore as the crews from Barneveld Squad 1 deployed water rescues technicians and our UTV to transport the victims back to the roadway. Both victims were transported to a local hospital by Star Ambulance and Kuyahoora Ambulance with non-life threatening injuries. While operating at the scene we were dispatched to a reported motor vehicle accident at the intersection State Route 12 and Main St in the Town of Trenton, crews spilt up our resources and handled both emergencies. Barneveld FD responded under the command of Chief Kevin Kalk with Rescue 1, Squad 1 and 13 members. We would like to thank the two good samaritans who heard the screams for help and waded through the approx. 34” of fresh snow to get the victim out of the water as we arrived on scene.
