Ashland County, Ohio - At approximately 7:28 a.m., the Polk Fire Department and EMS, the Ashland County Sheriff's Department, and the Ohio State Highway Patrol responded to the 200 block of U.S. 42 for a single-vehicle crash involving a pickup truck and a tree.

Preliminary reports indicate that a gold 2000 GMC Sierra, driven by Thomas D. Marks (59) of Polk, Ohio, was traveling northbound on US 42. The vehicle traveled off the right side of the roadway, struck a sign, then went over an embankment, striking a tree. It then spun sideways, facing south, and came to rest in the ditch.

He was then taken to Ohio Health Mansfield by Polk EMS with serious injuries.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation by the Ashland Ohio State Highway Patrol.

Other agencies that assisted on the scene included World Truck Towing.

The roadway was temporarily shut down until the wreckage and debris could be removed.

The Polk Veterans Parade starts at 10:00 this morning. If you want to watch the parade, line up along Congress street somewhere. It will start at the west end at the sewer plant and end at the east end by the cemetery.

The department was honored to have students from Mapleton Cares Day on station yesterday to wash and wax vehicles and clean around the station. An ambitious group of young ladies and men. We thank you for everything you did!

Come join the Polk Veterans Parade this Saturday, May 18. There will be a parade as well as a meal at the fire station. All veterans eat free, the rest is by donation. Also, bring your children to see the fire trucks and pick up some free stuff for your children. If you want to be a part of the parade call the number on the flyer.
