Yesterday on the trail took us to Milan, Missouri for the kickoff of the Oldtimers Memorial Day Weekend Celebration, and what a great start it was!

Spent the day visiting with folks from all across North Missouri and Southern Iowa. Enjoyed sampling several different styles of food prepared by many amazing groups, always fun tasting plates from all over the world. The car show was outstanding, and I think I may have found a new campaign manager in my nephew!

I even spent some time in the dunk tank for the Milan Chamber of Commerce fundraiser, always a pleasure to support organizations that do so much for our local communities. Afterward, we stopped by the Milan Elks Lodge to dry off and visit with more friends. Got a great picture with Mindy Chapman, the car show organizer, an incredible job once again, and the show keeps growing every year!

We wrapped up the day at the Milan Old Timers Rodeo. It was well attended, a big success on night one, and full of chances to visit with both old and new friends. Even got a photo with my longtime friend and rodeo clown entertainer Tadpole Dennis!

We’re just getting warmed up on the trail, keep an eye out, because we’re going to be busy. Hope to see you out there soon!

Today, the trail took us to Unionville, MO, where we had the chance to stop by Heartland Chiropractic and Wellness. Dr. Sarah and Brenda do an outstanding job keeping us aligned and out on the trail. This is a prime example of a great small business right here in our area, owned and operated by two local Putnam County entrepreneurs.

Healthcare is one of my major campaign platforms. We must do everything in our power to keep our local doctors, nurse practitioners, nurses, hospitals, clinics, and health departments in business, because no one will ever care for us like our own. Thank you again to Dr. Sarah and Brenda for all you do!

Later this afternoon, I took our oldest son back to Kansas City to catch a flight to Japan, where Dakota works as a civilian contractor at a naval hospital. Dakota came home to spend Mother’s Day with Heather and to visit family and friends. It had been three years since being home, and nine days just didn’t seem long enough, but we’re grateful for every moment we get. We’re hopeful we’ll be able to plan a trip to Japan sometime next year.

This week is busy on the trail, and this weekend will be even busier. Hope to see you out on the trail soon!

Today the trail takes us to Putnam County near Livonia, Missouri, where we stopped by Minear Seed Service, owned and operated by Drake Minear. Drake and spouse Kaylee Minear run this locally owned, full‑service Pioneer Seed business, and they do an outstanding job.

Drake is a multi‑generation businessman, rancher, and farmer in the Livonia area. Drake and I are fraternity brothers from Alpha Gamma Sigma and share a strong love for the University of Missouri. Kaylee grew up right here in Sullivan County, and I had the pleasure of watching Kaylee grow up and serving alongside Kaylee’s dad on the school board for nine years. Now they’re raising the next generation of Tigers!

As I wrapped up planting corn this evening on my farm, I want to thank Drake for the guidance in selecting the right seed for my operation. It was truly a pleasure doing business with Minear Seed Service. If you’re looking for Pioneer seed, be sure to stop and see Drake.

It’s a priority for me to do as much business as possible right here at home and to support small, locally owned businesses like Minear Seed Service. If we want our communities to thrive, supporting those who build and own local businesses is essential.

As always, please like and share our posts so we can continue highlighting great folks like the Minears and show everyone across our area what we’re up to.

Hope to see you on the trail soon!

Today on the trail kept us in Sullivan County, where we visited Milan C-2 Schools and Dr. Ashley Pauley, Superintendent of Milan C-2. Ashley and I go way back—she was a teacher at Milan and later became Elementary Principal while I was serving on the Milan C-2 School Board. Ashley also taught our youngest son, Garrett, when he was in third grade, so it was great to catch up with her.

Ashley and I discussed school funding and how the $246 per-student funding deficit provided by the State impacts Milan C-2. We also talked about the ongoing struggle to find enough certified teachers to fill classrooms. Similar to my visit to Green City School, we discussed the possibility of developing an alternative certification program and the need for universities to buy in and help support our schools.

Like every school I’ve visited, I truly appreciated Ashley’s upbeat, never-give-up attitude. If I have the privilege of serving our area, I will work day and night to see that education is properly funded and that every child—no matter where they live—receives a quality education. As a society, we owe them the best possible start to adulthood.

As always, follow our page and share our posts so we can reach folks across our area. I look forward to seeing each of you on the trail!

Yesterday on the trail took us to Adair County, Kirksville, Missouri, where we had the pleasure to visit with Dr. Jordan Palmer at Complete Family Medicine. Dr. Palmer was recently awarded the A.T. Still Staff Award for Excellence in Teaching!! This is a very prestigious award, and we want to congratulate Dr. Palmer on this awesome achievement!

Dr. Palmer is a primary care doctor at Complete Family Medicine, where patients are seen on a daily basis, and time is also dedicated to teaching at the university.

Dr. Palmer shared with me the struggles seen in medicine for rural healthcare, and the shortage of affordable health insurance for rural residents in our area. We want to thank Dr. Palmer for taking the time to visit with us and outline critical needs for our area.

As I travel across the area, I hear many people comment about not being able to find services in our area that we need because of the shortage of businesses to cover those needs. The number one killer of small businesses is the cost of health insurance!!! I believe we must work together to find and provide affordable healthcare options to constituents and small businesses!

I hope to see you on the trail soon!
